So....be honest............who had Corey Perry in the Rocket Richard Trophy fantasy pool?

I admit it.....I had Ovechkin

Update:

Duke of Nothing - Perry won 2 OHL scoring titles.........he's always been considered a scorer

Update 2:

Sorry about the thumbs down people, I have left a lot of jealous idiots in my wake!

Machinehead...........what were the odds on Boogaard scoring a goal at the start of the season...let alone winning the scoring title!

Kay - easy to be underrated when you play on the same team as Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan and some Finnish guy almost as old as I am.....

Update 3:

Philadelphia Pat - I would have thought you would have had JVR as the Richard winner

Update 4:

Bob - Since the Hart Trophy is 'the player judged to be most valuable to his team', I've always felt that there should be two votes......one to pick a nominee from each team (like they do for the Masterton) and then a vote to pick from the nominees. I think Chris Pronger was the last true Hart Trophy winner.

But Bob, the fact that Perry has been a stud for a decade has accomplished all that and until a month ago got no respect from writers/fans outside London and Anaheim makes him underrated. I was watching the Ducks telecast of last night's game and it was brought up about how much higher Getzlaf would be in the scoring race if he hadn't missed 15 games, and all I could think of was how much higher would Perry be....who gives a **** about Getzlaf..........

Update 5:

LeafsFan - I've always considered Perry the best of those 3, but until now have worried that he would be the next Brian Bellows/Bobby Smith.........although Getzlaf has shown a great deal of improvement at the NHL level.

Brandon - success means winning...when you answered this question....Stamkos was no longer winning!

Bob - I always hold out hope that the writers will catch up......it's only been 50 years....I still hold out!

I had Boogaard. I don't know how the hell this happened.

My pick was Stamkos. But earlier this season another user asked to make up a top line if you were a GM and I did use Perry (and got crucified...including by a couple of the better to remain unnamed regulars). Hard to deny a scorer who plays a gritty (sometimes over the edge) physical game. He is the classic guy you love to hate when your team plays the Ducks but if your team ever traded for him he would become an instant fan favorite.

As for the thumbs down....it isnt just you LITY. Seems there are some childish people here who give them to a lot of the regulars. I get at least 2 for every answer I give now so I seem to have acquired a couple of "fans". Thumbs down is only given out by losers who cant respect others opinions because of their own personal issues....I have never given one and dont see any reason to as I dont have "issues" and have no trouble functioning in society. I suspect this is true of most of the people who are capable of giving intelligent answers or opinions....kinda easy to guess who some of the losers are.

I have always liked Perry. I drafted him in two of my Fantasy leagues. To give you an idea how far off the radar he was I got him in the 2nd round in one and in the third round with the 36th overall pick in another. That Loblaw guy had already passed on him 3 times. In fact someone had already drafted that Bum Spezza at that point.

I remember asking a 50/50 question in November about Stamkos, his production as really fallen off.

Perry is a great player as he does it all, scores, PP, PK scores shorthanded and doesn't mind taking the occasional penalty.

I had Ovechkin as my top RR candidate

He's not underrated.......how can you be underrated and be on Team Canada winning a Gold Medal? World Juniors? OHL standout? 1st round pick? etc...etc

Rocket trophy? Seems fair (my pick was Stamkos) but spare me the Hart talk....a writer pens an article about it and it goes viral. Let's face it, 99% of the time, the Hart goes to the top point getter....he's 6th. Not to mention.....is he that much more valuable to the Ducks than Getzlaf? Hiller? Ryan? Selanne or Viznovsky even?

Source(s): EDIT......LITY......and what the hell do writers and fans know? You've spent enough time on this site to know that most are simple. I'll take the opinions of those who know the game (yourself included) over some writer who has never laced up a pair of blades in his life or some couch potato fan. When a player is a shoo-in for the Canadian Olympic squad (which Perry was, he wasn't a late pick) then he is rated just fine. Another gem from the 2003 draft.....with Getzlaf, Richards, Carter, Parise, Kesler.....and those are just the players taken after the 10th pick. He's always been the same company as all of them and considering that Carter never made the 2010 team and Mike Richards was the 13th forward chosen by Yzerman. Underrated just doesn't come to mind for me......
  • I had Stamkos...clearly this is my East Coast bias coming through (last year had me coverted to a believer in him). I guess I just saw perry as a perpetual 30-goal scorer (which is damn good lest we forget) on a Ducks team that had a really good top line.

I always viewed Getzlaf as the prize on that top line (Perry/Getzlaf/Ryan).

I don't have a fantasy pool lol. But if I did I wouldn't have thought of to pick Perry out of all the other players....This season he has been amazing, and I know he has been considered a scorer, but also considered a "tough" guy. I think he is underrated in the sense that there is more to this guy than just fighting or being an instigator. He can do all of this at once, while being a 40+ goal scorer, which is rare in today's NHL in my opinion.

I would've said Stamkos. Glad to see someone other than OV/Sid up there, although it likely would've been Crosby's award without the concussion ruining his season.

I had Crosby. I hope Perry can take it, he's having a great season.

Me too! Corey Perry is the most underrated forward/player in the league.

I know, I had Stamkos and it was looking good for awhile... Then Perry comes out of no where and robbs me of words...Wow.

Not me. He's had an amazing second half.

Imagine what Perry could do if he could actually skate?
