Has anyone read Look Again by Lisa Scottoline?
What did you think of it? In the book, an adoptive mother discovers that her adoptive son's adoption was fraudulent. The "birthparents" who relinquished were not actually his biological parents but had actually kidnapped him from his biological family, who were searching for him. I won't give away how the adoptive mother deals with uncovering this, or how the situation turns out, but I actually have some questions about whether certain legal things in the book are accurate. So, once I get a few responses, I'll give a spoiler alert and ask a couple follow up questions.
Okay, now spoiler alert. I guess it's silly to try not to. Aloha girl, while I thought the author actually had a pretty ethical treatment of the storyline, I kind of felt the same way. Like, I really don't think it'd be so easy to get the adoption file by being allowed by the dead lawyer's husband to root through her old files in her home office. Surely legal files are more secure than that. Okay, so the biological mother ended up dying and it turned out that her husband wasn't actually the biological father. But, he was her husband and on the birth certificate. Wouldn't he still have legal rights to his "son" that was kidnapped?

Yes, I read it recently. I worried the entire way through the book about how it was going to be handled and how I would feel about it once the truth came out. I thought it was a pretty good story but the author reminded me a bit of the kids who come here and ask inane adoption questions because they "have to write a report" for school. I don't think the author knows a whole lot about adoption -- just thought it would be an interesting storyline.
I wish I'd checked the book out from the library rather than purchased it.

Wow, that is plenty of books! My individual favorites, out of all of the ones you indexed, are Looking For Alaska, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and possibly To Kill a Mockingbird. (The 3rd is relatively well, however I'm head over heels in love with the opposite 2.) Have a laugh!
