Do you think that you know anything... On what scale is true knowledge weighed?
And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. But if any one loves God, he has been known of him.
(1 Corinthians 8:2-3)
What are your thoughts on what it really means to "know anything"..."as we ought to know".?
Bonus Q: "If any man LOVES GOD, the same is known of Him"... Is the Apostle here referring to when Jesus will say to many who really did not Love God in spirit and in truth, "...I never knew you."?
"And then I will say to them I never knew you! Depart from Me, those working lawlessness!
(Matthew 7:23)
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weighs the spirits.
(Proverbs 16:2)
On what scale does the Lord weigh the spirits?... Does Agape LOVE have anything to do with the outcome?
I ask these things sincerely desiring to Love God, by keeping His words, and be known of Him, according to His Word.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and ALL KNOWLEDGE; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity (Agape Love), I am nothing.
(1 Corinthians 13:2)
Thank you, dearly beloved, for considering these questions.... I look forward to your sincere answers. : )
Thanks for answering Samantha, the amazing thing to me is that it is possible for us to "have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge, and have all faith..." and STILL not have True Love and be as nothing!... That amazes me, and causes me to desire even more to ABIDE in LOVE, for God is LOVE! : )
And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
(1 John 4:16-17)
"...we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but LOVE BUILDS UP."
(1 Corinthians 8:1)

There is one thing that I know for sure, that I know very very little indeed, compared to what is out there.

I'd like to think I knew something but on a scale of what I do know compared to what I don't know, well...... let's just say it would not be in my favor lol.
Bonus Q: "If any man LOVES GOD, the same is known of Him"... Is the Apostle here referring to when Jesus will say to many who really did not Love God in spirit and in truth?
My Answer: "Everyone will know and believe how much you love Him - remember the old song? They will know we are Christians by our love"!

"To know anything as we ought to know"
The world dispenses their brand of truth as being more 'right' than someone else's ideas.
People are always concerned with whether or not something is 'right' or 'wrong'. I always get asked questions with the preface: "Do you think it is right or wrong to ..."
I always answer their questions the same. "To ask if something is right or wrong is the same as asking if it is good or is it evil? And, as long as they are asking that question they are, in effect, still eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil!" As long as we keep trying to decide for ourselves whether something is right or wrong (good and evil) then we are still trying to sit in God's throne. Whether or not something is right or wrong is purely God's choice. Do not make the same mistake that Adam made in Isaiah 14; saying 'I will ascend ... to the throne of God'
It is the same tree that Adam and Eve ate from and resulted in killing us all. And, each bite that we take, keeps bringing us death by that sin.
We need to ask the right question! Will it bring me Life or will it bring me death!!?
That is the right way to know anything as we ought to know it.
In fact it is the only acceptable question, in the Lord.
Listen to Him, and Him alone! Do not listen to your fallen, earthly, subtle nature, which always questions whether or not God has really said what He said. Questioning how good or evil something is always brings doubt.
And Doubt, is a faith killer!

If you have the gift of prophecy, wouldn't you already know the answer...? ; )
I really don't know what it is to know anything...all I can do is search within myself, and seek the help of some others.
I can't speak for anybody else, but it would seem strange for a loving God to use a scale to weigh love... Why would God need to weigh Himself? (or Herself?)

Beloved, Amen! Love truly is the protest and the lesson ;-) Much love my brother in truth! Love - D
**WARNING** The following may seem "crazy" in this age
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others?] do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:43-48)
"If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15)
"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:12-13)
"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Galatians 5:14)
Source(s): "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also." (1 John 4:20-21) - JuliaLv 71 decade ago
