Spider - was crawling on the floor! I haven't done any traveling. So no luggage. No gifts, no visitors coats.?

1) I killed one in a room. Is there another one in the room? I'm thinking they live in pairs.

.

2) The room is kept clean, no crackers crumbs or any food stuff laying around.

.

3) Is there a poison dust, poison liquid, poison paste, or something that would attract

and kill them?

.

4) I run a humidifier in the room for several hours each day - this has to be done for

medical reasons during winter months. It is not excessively humid. But that might

make it "comfortable" for spiders?----- but a dry OR humid atmosphere probably

doesn't matter to a spider - right?

.

Thanks. ps: it was small, ½ of a pea size and black. Scared the willies out of me!

Not knowing where you live I can't be sure, but every where I have lived there have been spiders that come into homes. Spiders are usually single dwellers except for the hatchlings that stay on the mother just after hatching. As far as I know spiders eat insects. There are glue traps that are made for insects and spiders. Some of them have something on them that attracts the spiders to them so that they become stuck in the glue. These are far less dangerous in the home where there are children and pets. There is also a spray that is sold that keeps spiders from making webs on surfaces. I have seen the insect/spider type glue traps sold in some hardware/home improvement stores, and on some web sites that sell natural pest control products. If you are like me the idea of any insect or spider crawling on me is about enough to give me shivers. I suggest to help ease your fear you do a web search to learn about the poisonous spiders, and if they are found in your area. I live in central Arkansas, and we have Black Widow and Brown Recluse spiders, and a small Scorpion that can cause a very painful sting. I have a little less fear about these dangerous critters since I learned how to recognize them and where they like to live.

    1) No, they do not live in pairs...but several can live in one small area without problems. Depending on which species of spider that is.

    2) You're thinking of mice. Spider's aren't attracted to human food because they don't eat it.

    3) Nope. If you are really worried about an infestation, than you have to have an exterminator use pesticides to get rid of them.

    4) Spider's prefer dark, humid, remote spaces. They tend to hide themselves from humans and other large predators as best they can.

It sounds like you found a common house spider. It's completely harmless, and I'm sure you're house isn't infested with a horde of spiders. You're making a huge deal out of one tiny spider. Just forget about it and move on with your life.
