JYP/YG Auditions?? Should I Audition?
So first off I'm not Korean,
but I'll describe myself as best as a i can...
i look half Korean half black (I'm Hispanic,Creole, White, and Black) i guess you could say i look like Amerie just lighter with naturally sandy brown hair (shoulder length and wavy but i straighten it alot) and really large eyes (it looks like I'm wearing circle lenses but I'm not) The only thing I'm worried about is my height I'm 5'8 (I'm thinking that's somewhere around 180-182cm but that's an estimate)
i have a really good voice and my Korean is pretty decent I'm still learning. I don't have an accent when i speak which was something that my friends from Korea were very shocked about(I'm from Texas and when i speak English i have a southern accent, i also speak Spanish, and understand German very well). And when i sing in Korean i sound like a native, mannerisms in Korea aren't a big problem for me because although I'm not Korean my mom is basically an old Korean lady at heart. Respect is HUGE in our family and I've been studying the Korean culture long enough to know what's accepted and what's not. I've posted a video of me singing a song on Youtube in Korean and it's gotten a ton of views and alot of positive feedback mostly people being shocked that I'm not Korean.
I already know about the criticism that I'd face when auditioning and so I'm not worried about that. And i know that some people wouldn't accept simply because I'm not Korean. (Mostly the older generation because I've meet alot of the younger generation and they're the ones that want me to audition.)
I hope i don't come off as certain that I'll be accepted, because I'm sure that there's a 0.12% that I'll be accepted I'm just wondering if i should. And if so what would you guys suggest i plan on auditioning via email as a dancer/singer again i can memorize choreo very quickly and so that won't be a problem I've taken dance before for 2 years and was asked to be on the varsity dance team *as a freshman* (again please do not think that i am bragging i just want you to know as much about me as possible) i do have things that i need to work on before i audition such as toning my body up and perfecting my dancing. But i would really appreciate all the advice and help that you can give me.
And again i know that my chances of being accepted are slim to none and i am not doing this for the fame or the money or for meeting anyone famous I'm dong this because my passion is music i live and breathe it and it's what i want more then life itself, I'll take whatever criticism you give me and i will fight hard to work on it and prove you wrong. And prove to these companies that i can do this. And i will always strive to become better then what i am now, because there is always room for improvement, my love for this culture runs deeper then anything explainable (maybe i am part Korean that would explain alot!) And even if i receive nothing but negative criticism from netizens i will only work harder and hope that they accept. I am a shy person when it comes to speaking in front of people, but i let my singing and dancing speak for me. Again thank you for the help you can give me
~A~
thank you ^^;;;
I don't have an AIM but i do have a msn
if this helps this is a pic i took maybe a little under a year ago..i think it was last summer >.<;;;; can't remember https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-sn...

Well I'm going to say go for it. You never know unless you try right? Here's the thing though, even though Korea is becoming more open to different races coming into the Kpop world, they're all at least Asian or half Asian. The only singer that I know of that's half Black and half Korean is Tasha, and she sings in Korea. I think her Korean name is Yoon Mi Rae, but I always just call her Tasha. Anyways, it's one thing for a half Asian to assimilate into an Asian record label, but for someone that isn't Asian at all would be that much harder. I'm with you on this, because it's my dream to become a singer in Asia too. My love for music, dance and just overall performing kills me because I want to perform for everyone so bad, so I know how you feel when you say you don't care about the money or fame. You just want to achieve that happiness that you have when singing and performing and share it with everyone else and make it something that you can produce as a career. However, Korea with it's music industry right now is really...pop oriented. You need to have the look everyone shares right now. Just based off your race, I don't think that you'd be put in a group if you debuted. You'd stick out too much, and Korea hasn't opened up enough to actually accept seeing a different race other than Asian yet performing as a major artist in their country. Tasha made it through though, and became extremely popular, so maybe you would have a chance, however she was more popular back then when idol groups didn't run Kpop. But if you did debut, you'd probably be a soloist. I personally think being a soloist would be better, not specifically for you, but just to see a soloist again in Korea would be great. There are too many idol groups now, and really, I think that Korea is losing it's musical prowess to image. If you debuted as a soloist, you'd also have to work that much harder to rise up and become known, because the only way to be successful as a singer, is to get your name out there. Passion alone won't get you known you know? Also, you have to think about what Donghae<3 said. IDK if they're (Donghae<3) Asian, but most people would rather see an Asian sing in an Asian record label or star in a drama. Think about how people reacted to when they made a live action movie for DBZ. No one wanted to see Goku as some white guy and the movie flopped horribly. Anyways, I think you'd have a slim chance, if you are as good as you say, because record labels like SM, JYP, and YG don't prohibit ethnicity, though the only singers right now are Asian. If you can get your talent through and get them to look past your ethnicity, then you may have a chance. Don't let people shoot you down. Learn from the answers you get, the critiques you receive, and train to achieve your dream. I'll be rooting for you. If we both make it, maybe we'll see each other. Good Luck!

I suggest JYPE. They do international auditions all year round (so you can apply anytime) and accept basically anyone regardless of race usually. I am kind of JYP biased, maybe because I grew up listening to the man himself, Park Ji Young perform and g.o.d. of course (even though they are not physically at the company anymore), but JYPE auditions I know are offered all year round though.
JYPE's training system/program is also very good, they want you to do well in school as well. They will teach you Korean to improve your Korean so you sometimes don't really have to worry about that sometimes, but usually if you live in Korea for like a year or so you'll seem even more fluent than ever. They basically will teach you everything to prepare you in case you debut.
So yeah audition. Go ahead. You might have slim chances of being accepted, but it doesn't hurt to audition, because you have to try something new once in a while and if you make it, then congrats. Do what you love and have passion for. Strive for the best. Good luck though. Aim for the impossible is the phrase.

I think you should audition.
These days, i see celebrities from other nations doing well in korea....although they are also of the asian race...such as taiwan and china and stuff...
I dont think any of the companies seem racist or anything so you probably dont have to worry about that.
So i think the big ones are SM, JYP, and YG.
Now i'll say...YG seems REALLY hard because...they hardly let out new groups or anything so...unless you are really really good at singing...i mean like extreme...then you might be able to audition for YG.
But otherwise, if you are pretty well rounded, like good dancing, good singing, good looking face, then i would go for SM or JYP.
SM is more pop bubbly type.
I personally like SM better because they are pretty well rounded. They have good looks and they actually have alot of really good singers. And since you can dance, that will be a plus for you.
I just personally wouldnt want to be in JYP because i've seen Park Jin Young's past music videos and performances. even recent performances etc. He has that...odd...sexy? kind of...dancing...He has that style and he likes to teach the other singers in his company to sing and dance in that style....i personally wouldnt want anyone singing or dancing in that style...
On the other hand...The music industry in korea...it might not be SUPERRRR DUPERRR hard to get into...the problem is if you can get to the top and get known very well. I once had the dream of becoming an idol star in YG...but...i gave up because i can't sing very well, cant dance at all. visuals arent very good. I had no chance...
ANYWAY, your race wont be a problem for you because i believe there are already half black half koreans in the music industry right now. and they are on the TOP.
So good luck!

I would say go for it.When you described your talents it was almost as if you were talking about me. I play the violin and dance and sing pretty good. i have have german blood but i am mexican and spanish. i really love everything about south korea and i have also been thinking about auditioning for a korean entertainment company. i speak english, spanish, and some korean. People keep telling me that it is impossible for a non asian to make it big into korea, but i think they are wrong. times are changing a lot. for example,200 years ago, when all african americans were slaves, who would have thought that someday a african american would become the president of the united states? no one. Just like today, almost everyone thinks it is stupid to even think a non asian can make it big in korea, but like i said, times are changing. You should really audition. Regardless of what other people tell you, first think about what you want. and if you end up not auditioning, just imagine how would you feel if you see a non asian making it big in korea and you imagining that that could have been you. It is better to regret doing something that regretting not ever doing it. You sound like someone not only with a lot of talent and confidence but you are passionate about this. I wish you good luck!!! :)

I wouldn't, not just because you'll face racism but most of all you won't get in in other words your just wasting your time. I just asked my brothers and sister and we all agreed that we wouldn't buy an album of someone who isn't Asian or watch a drama starring someone who isn't Asian.

I think you should go for it. The worst they can say is no. You've got nothing to lose.
