My parents wont let me have a kitten?

Hi,

My parents wont let me have a kitten.

I don't have any pets in the house and the only type of pet i've ever had are fish. I've never had any other pet in the house.

I've been DYING for one since I was 6 and I told my parents I would look after it.

I think it's because of the expenses but my sister is going to start working and is going to get paid £8,000-£10,000 pounds a month, also my mum is going to start working, I think she's being paid the same amount.

please help, I've been dying to have a kitten for agesssssss!!! I love them!

Im 13 years old by the way :)

-thanks :)

Update:

my parents also said that it takes a lot of responsibility & they make a mess. Also another big thing is that my family are really busy at work and stuff. If we go on holiday how are we going to bring it and on weekdays when everyone is busy and out of the house, who's going to look after the cat?

anyone know any solutions? :s

-thanks again

Hi, the same thing happened to me. I was asking my parents, in fact begging for a kitten for ages after we re-homed our old one due to moving to another country. We then came back to England so i wanted a kitten again. My parents always had an excuse like my sister was too young. Then my brother was born. Funnily enough for some reason this time my parents let me get a kitten. But unfortunately my neighbours dog broke into our garden and killed our cat :( . The advice I will give you is try to show your parents that your responsible, tell them if it doesn't work out you will re-home the kitten. Show your parents you can be responsible. Try to act older but don't make it too obvious. Even offer to take care of a friends pet for a while to show you can be trustworthy. After that hint that you want your one pet but don't ask them about it. One more thing if you do get a kitten keep it away from dogs. Even your own back yard is'nt safe, I would go as far as making it an indoor cat. If you go on holiday you can leave your cat in a kennel for cats, of course you would have to pay, but since your family are more well off that should'nt be a problem.

Hope I helped and sorry if the answers too long.

But you need to be able to pay for the cat and take care of it that is taking care of it, now of course you have to depend on your family for money for you, but they don't have to allow you to have a kitten. The best advice I can give you is that since everyone seems to be going off to find work, and you will be home, do the chores your sister and mom would have been doing and tell them that you would really like a kitten and you will do all the chores they ask without issue if they allow you to get one. If that works just remember not to stop once you get the cat or it is bye bye kitty as soon as you got it. And make sure you research how much time, money, and effort you really have to put into the kitten and see if you actually have the ability to do it.

if you get one without permission it is likely to be taken to a pound and put to sleep. where you may be willing now to take care of it, are you able to get a job to pay for food and litter and toys and vet bills? these things are not cheap. i pay $60 a month in food, and $90 a month in litter. toys are just as expensive. and vet bills are far from cheap.

are you going to feed and water it every single day? clean the litter box once a day, including cleaning up any mess on the floor? then change it out and scrub the box once a week?

maybe your parents don't like cats. maybe they're allergic. maybe they're too busy for a pet.

your parents probably do not want to be responsible for a cat at all, financially or otherwise. when you grow up and move out you can have as many cats as you want when you're the one paying for and taking care of it.

I remember when i was about your age and i also wanted a kitten, but wasn't allowed one. but in the end i was glad i dint get one because the hype about it had faded away.. Also remember its not a toy, u need to feed it, clean its poo etc..

I would say wait a couple of weeks and if u still feel the NEED to have one, you should speak to your mum and sister and make arrangements for the new member of the family :)

you cant really change your parents' minds with people's opinions on yahoo answers!! if they wont let you have one then thats that!! it's their roof and they control what happens under it.. when you get ur own house you can have ur own pets right!? .... the only other compromise would be to ask them .. if they can get you a kitten.. you'll do a certian amount of chores or work for them in return.. like vaccuuming, washing dishes, mopping, things like that... and if its a no then theres nothing you can really do... sorry!

did you take care of the fish? if you did then ask for a rodent pet and make a deal if you take care of it then you can get a cat. Maybe they just don't want a cat. I hate cats and would never have a smelly cat in the house. Try a dog that way you can give him a bath as often as u like.

Your sisters money and your mothers money is not yours to spend. Regardless of if you have your own money or not you live in there house and by their rules. They said no the answer is no. When you live in your own house and make your own money you can get a cat

Cats are cheap. But get a female. No worry about spraying or annoying meows, only once a month they go into heat..in which they're annoying. But maybe they just don't like cats.

Your sister is about to "start work" on £8000 -10,000 a month -- and so is your mother?

On that basis , ask for two.

Might wanna ask them why they don't wanna kitten. Cant advise unless you know this
