Anybody planning on being celibate their whole lives?
So I know priests do this in the Roman church, and there have been protestants too, like John Stott. But just curious if anyone on here thinks that's how they'd like to live their lives, and why?

Actually, I wouldn't mind living my life celibate if that's what God wants for my life. I know alot of people would take that as a "I could not imagine living my life that way" type comment but I wouldn't mind one bit. I recently rededicated my life in November and have been celibate ever since.
I recognize that not many people have the same view on it as I would but I feel as though I've put my body through a ton of heartache and have betrayed my own views in my life before rededicating myself. I understand that God has a better plan for me and maybe one day I'll get married and I won't be living my life celibate but if that doesn't happen it's nothing I can't handle. I don't want to have to make anymore explanations from this point on to the person that I may or may not marry.
God has changed my life and helped me follow the movement and not just the motions. For me, personally being celibate was a great part of how one day I will explain my testimony.
Great question! God Bless!

Yes, I'd hope to take vows into Orthodox monasticism some day, and maybe, or maybe not, get a seminary education.

"It seems to me that bodily pleasure is like a rough file smeared with oil, which when the cat licks it up, it also licks with it the blood of its own tongue. Or it is like the fly in the honey that tastes a certain sweetness but at the same time it is entrapped in the honey and dies. Pleasure is also the bait that is superficially sweet, but when swallowed, brings about a painful death."

I guess I won't say that I PLAN to be celibate, but it wouldn't bother me if that's how it turns out. I won't go looking for a relationship until God decides I should be in a relationship and he points out the lady he wants me to be with. This may never happen, but I would rather be celibate my entire life than be in a relationship that God does not want me to be in.

Yes, but I am not one of those people.
Some of those people are a little mad... Sex is a physiological imperative, and it's often destructive to suppress it completely.

Celibacy is great. It is unfortunate that the practice has a bad reputation.
I like to do it for years at a time but I also like threesomes.
