Why is it OK for people to abuse their EBT Card?
Several times recently, I have been in line at the grocery store behind people who are taking advantage of their neighbors (taxpayers). One woman had money for smokes and a cell phone, yet had to use my money to buy her junk food and quality meats with her EBT card. Another day, the man in front of me used his EBT card to buy $40 worth of Ghardelli chocolate bars.
Since when does helping people mean that we have to provide luxuries? You don't need junk food. You don't need steaks. You don't need prepared frozen meals. You don't need chocolate and candies.
Why can't they fix the system so that they can't buy things that many working people can't afford? Exactly how is this fair to working people? We should never let anyone starve or go without shelter. However, since when are expensive chocolates, potato chips, and cans of Pepsi a necessity?

I agree with you 10000% I work at WinCo foods and I see it all day at least half of my sales are EBT (food stamps) and the **** i see people buying is crazy they can get energy drinks, candy, soda, chips, gum etc and I cant afforded that why do they get to use my tax dollars for junk. Its sad. It pisses me off. EBT is a services NOT a right! Way to many people take advantage of it and that’s why the government is failing! I also think they should have to take drug test to get ebt or any benefits for that matter, I have to take for my JOB! I don’t care if they have children or not! you may call me heartless but the truth is one day very soon they will be no ebt or welfare why? Because there will be no money left to support it. Get a job you lazy bums!!!

I agree. I am disabled and get a small amount of food stamps each month. There should be regulations on what can be bought. There should also be regulations on where the card can be used. I've seen people use their ebt card at the convenience store buying $30.00 worth of donuts, candy and soda. That to me is abuse.

It is not. And the people who do, ruin it for the people who really need help. I have no problem being my brothers keeper when they hit hard times. I bet there are a ton of people every day at my grocery I don't notice with food stamps. Because, they understand the real value of having help with food for their family.
People who buy crap with their food stamps, I.e. Junk food and soda pop and candy, tick off the rest of us in the grocery when we cannot afford that crap with the our own income. They are a citizen in need and we are the citizens providing that need with our tax dollars. Why should I pay so much in taxes and my husband work 70 hours a week if the people we are supporting don't really need "food"? Are bakery cakes food? Are cases of soda food?

I agree completely. My uncle and his wife spend every penny of thier EBT funds on junk food, and they have two young boys. It's disgusting, and I really wish there was a way to regulate what people buy with that free money. At least they can't buy beer with it.. I think.

before ebt cards and the paper money they used before the ebt cards you used to get a box full of healthy foods like cheese, peanut butter, beans, canned meat and bread and juices. They need to go back to those boxes rather then the ebt card. I know of people that have ebt cards that trade their monthly allotment to someone for drugs, and reporting them has done nothing.

YOU need to run for office to help protect all of us.
For the record, some of those products purchased are legal. And taxpayers like me, who pay a huge amount, are never offended when a poor mother buys a candy bar for her son or daughter. I live for the happy faces in the little ones. Keep in mind, they will inherit this world and rather soon. We wold only hope that the humanity we show now will be reflected back at us in our old and defenseless years.
