Anyone with half a clue ( even politicians) know who Donald Trump really is. He is a self important salesman who who sells his own brand of narcissism to the highest bidder, then tells them they are the smartest person for having done so. He cares only for what he can get at the moment, and has no actual vision for others he would mean to govern. I don't think Trump is capable of caring for a country and ALL of it's citizens, and would suffer horribly shortly after the election due to his obvious lack of interest in anybody but himself.

Unfortunately though Politicians will nominate ANYONE they think can beat the opposition, and it has little to do with charisma, leadership and the application of their own ideas that used to dictate a vision or direction the Party felt the country should move toward. Politics is all about the acquisition of power, and how to maintain their ill gotten means.

I don't think he's a plant from the DNC. I just see him as a disingenuous, opportunistic, egomaniac. He's been trying to get into politics on and off for decades, and he'll just hop on whatever train he thinks might get him there.
