Connect Computer to TV in HDMI?
Hi. I got a new computer today and am trying to connect my TV as main screen using HDMI.
I am currently using the VGA cable on the TV and it works, but I want to use the HDMI but the computer does not detect my TV when it is connected with HDMI, even if I connect it before I boot the computer.
Did I miss something?
Some of you did understand what my problem is. Others really didn't. I'm on Windows 7, when I right click the Desktop and select Screen resolution, that's normally where you select the screen(s) you'd like to use. I only have the TV through VGA there, even though my TV is now connected with both cables.
If it is a driver problem, what kind of drivers do I need to install? Graphic card drivers?

since TVs don't have the ability to update any drivers, you'll need to update the graphic card's driver on its website - either ATI or Nvidia.
but are you using a graphics card (GPU) or a built-in integrated graphics? if you're using the GPU, there should be a HDMI connection you can use to connect to the TV. if your TV only has a VGA connection and your GPU, or uncommonly the integrated graphics, has a HDMI connection, buy a HDMI/VGA adaptor.

Try getting into the control panel for the Card, like Nivida Control panel, and see if you can set up the
dual tv, clone or extended.
Also, since this is a new computer, you might check the Bios to see if HDMI is set up to be used. Check all the menus in Bios, and find one that allows setting up the VGA, or the use of a Video card.
It could be that it is set up to run on integrated video (probably VGA) and not video card, or the other way around.
And if the HDMI is on the card, the card needs to be the one set up, or if the HDMI is not on the card, then the integrated should probably need setting up.

Double check your settings, Computers are defaulted to output to VGA, so make sure that your computer is set to output to HDMI, if all your settings are correct then you are looking at possible driver problems, make sure your drivers are installed and up to date. Finally, if you have an aftermarket video card make sure that it was properly installed, this may lead to your computer not even knowing it HAS an HDMI port.

Maybe your operating system doesnt have drivers for the TV? Or the 3rd party drivers you are using (Such as ATI or NVIDIA) dont support it on HDMI. This also may be obvious but make sure you are selecting the correct input on the TV.
