King james only people... what do you think about this verse?

In this translation, 1 John 5:7 mentions the trinity explicitly. We know from church history that the first mention of the doctrine of the trinity did not appear until Tertullian (born in 160, after all books of the bible had been written). Research has shown that this verse was added in the 14th century. I'm genuinely curious what your answer is to this, which is why I'm asking.

So in light of this verse, is the KJV reliable?

Update:

To clarify: I believe in the trinity. My question is the last line above. "Is the KJV reliable." Because there could be nothing explicitly about the trinity in something that early on.

To the guy quoting the catholic bible, it was the catholics that added that verse in to the vulgate in the 14th century.

KJV is not reliable for one reason.

    It has fabricated verses.

For example, 1st John 5:7 reads like this "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Holy Spirit, and these three are one." in the KJV English Bible.

However, the original Greek Bible has only four words and reads like this "treis eisin oi marturountes" - which only means "For there are three that witnesseth".

Similarly, 1 Tim 3:16 which reads as "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." is also a corrupt translation.

The Greek word "ὃς", which is used as a pronoun for godliness, has been mistranslated as God.

The word ὃς (pronounced as "OS") roughly means "IT" and hence the deliberate use of the word God is one of the biggest mistakes of the early Christians.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with some of your information.

The verse was found in an Old Syriac manuscript from around A.D. 170 and a Latin manuscript around A.D. 200.

The verse has been found in copies of the Latin Vulgate from the fifth century (which is older than most Greek manuscripts). It was quoted or referred to by several church fathers from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on centuries (Like Tatian, Tertullian, and Cyprian).

It is found in thousands of Greek and Latin texts.

Grammatically, without verse 7, reading 5 and then 8 breaks the rules of Greek grammar. Making it nonsensical.

The whole idea that it isn't scriptural is from the "older" and "better" manuscripts Westcott and Hort used to make their translations. Like the manuscript that was found in the waste can. It was in a room where the monks had hundreds of other manuscripts that were on shelves. They kept a fire to keep warm. They valued that "better" manuscript so much that pages were torn out when they had to restart the fire.

I believe, without shame or doubt, that the KJV is 100% reliable.

I'm no authority on this subject, but I have read a number of books about it. If I haven't answered clearly or to your satisfaction please let me know. Send me a message through yahoo answers.

Don't use Wikipedia it's not a reliable source of information. This is what the Catholic New American Bible states.

    1 John 5:7 (NAB)

So there are three that testify,

This is 1 John 5:6 (NAB)

This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit is the one that testifies, and the Spirit is truth.

  • Anyone relying on the KJV or claiming it has all the truth is way off base.

1 John 5:1-9 ESV Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. (2) By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. (3) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. (4) For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. (5) Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (6) This is he who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. (7) For there are three that testify: (8) the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. (9) If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son.

1 John 5:1-10 GNB Whoever believes that Jesus is the Messiah is a child of God; and whoever loves a father loves his child also. (2) This is how we know that we love God's children: it is by loving God and obeying his commands. (3) For our love for God means that we obey his commands. And his commands are not too hard for us, (4) because every child of God is able to defeat the world. And we win the victory over the world by means of our faith. (5) Who can defeat the world? Only the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. (6) Jesus Christ is the one who came with the water of his baptism and the blood of his death. He came not only with the water, but with both the water and the blood. And the Spirit himself testifies that this is true, because the Spirit is truth. (7) There are three witnesses: (8) the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and all three give the same testimony. (9) We believe human testimony; but God's testimony is much stronger, and he has given this testimony about his Son. (10) So those who believe in the Son of God have this testimony in their own heart; but those who do not believe God, have made a liar of him, because they have not believed what God has said about his Son.

The trinity is a false doctrine, impossible to prove from the pages of the Bible. Why do you think the Catholics call it a mystery?

DOES YOUR QUESTION PERTAIN TO THE TRINITY OR TO KJV?

Jason BeDuhn compared 8 modern bible including:

    KJV, NASB, NIV, NWT, Amplified

Of the 8 compared, he found the NWT to be the most accurate.
