Cheer for Canadian teams?

My friends think that since I am Canadian, I should cheer for the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup playoffs, since they are also a Canadian team. I am an Edmonton Oilers fan, but they aren't in the playoffs. (Yes I know they suck, you don't have to remind me) But I don't think I should have to. I am cheering for the Pittsburgh Penguins, so do you think I am obligated to cheer for Vancouver?

Not at all, you root for your team, and when they're out, go for whoever you want.

Cheer for what ever team you want. I'm a Sen's fan but I'm cheering for Boston and Vancouver now, in fact Boston has 23 Canadian players on it's roster compared to Montreal with only 11. So in actuality I'm cheering for a more Canadian team than Montreal is anyway.

  • Heck no! I was hoping CHI would have knocked the Canucks out and at this point I'm pulling for NSH over the Canucks.

This "cheer for the Canadian team" is hooey.

How many CGY fans were pulling for EDM in 2006, and vice versa in 2004? Thought so.

By this rationale NYI fans were pulling for NYR to upset WSH this year. Somehow...don't see that happening.

Montreal and Vancouver are the last two teams I am cheering for. It is not written in our Charter of Rights that you have to cheer for a Canadian team.

It's okay, just go cheer for the Penguins. Canucks doesn't need a Oily fan to cheer them on, they have us Canucks fans with them and plus we have half of the Toronto Maple Leaf fans with us better than having a Oily fan.

I am canadian, and I cheered passionately for the hawks over the canucks in round 1. My brother said everybody at the bar he was at yesterday (in calgary) to watch the game was cheering for the hawks. It doesnt matter whether they play in canada or the US cuz either way, half of every team is filled with canadians! Honestly, i never understood this logic that you should cheer for a canadian team. NHL is about cheering for your city, not being patriotic for your country! Having said that, I do hope montreal wins but im never cheering for our arch-rival canucks.

I'm Canadian and my favourite team is Pittsburgh.

And I hate Montreal... with a passion.

Root for whoever you want to root for. Tell your friends this is the Stanley Cup Playoffs....Not the Olympics.

I'm a fake Canadian, and I think it's important to show loyalty to our country!

    Go Vancouver and Montreal!!!!

Not really, you don't HAVE to cheer for any team. But it would be nice for a Canadian team to win ;D wouldn't it???? But it is your opinion so you are not obligated to anything.

Nope. I think you should cheer for whatever team you like.
