"Þetta er ég" is a correct translation for "this is me".

you check your translations with google translate? I think that is not a good idea, especially not for Icelandic, which is very complex. also why do you assume, that Icelandic is translated word for word from English.

And about ''this'' it depends.. You have 3 ways in the nominative þessi /þessi and þetta

As you perhaps already know Icelandic has genders, but most cases when that happens I would say it is the same as Norwegian, so use the neuter unless you are specifying something which has a gender, like a nurse, fireman, but if there is no more context, you use the neuter.
