Is it worth it to pray for others?

There is evidence that positive self talk and participating in holistic healing practices lead to faster self recovery.

However there is no evidence that directing this kind of energy (praying for someone) towards another person helps at all. I don't think its possible to test outside influence on recovery from illness. You could isolate people to one illness, and one doctor even did it. He had a control group of people who were "not prayed for". But it is impossible to isolate someone who is "not prayed for" becuase there are some people in the world who pray for the safety and wellbeing of the entire planet, all people included.

There is a school of thought involving quantum physics and mechanics that just simply believing something makes it true. Its still just a 'good idea' at this point.

Update:

I think I worded this question wrong.

Since my near fatal 94 accident, I'm a firm believer that self-talk (self-hypnosis) and a holistic approach to my health is what allowed me to live, eventually recover and live a productive life even with severe pain.

Third party prayer didn't do a damned thing for me - I did the work.

The only people who may receive some benefit are those doin the pray'n.

It is worth what you think it's worth.

I doubt there is much effect upon the situation of concern, but prayer's benefit is most often as a coping and calming practice for the person doing the praying.

Being aware that they are not alone and have others praying for them is a form of self-talk. This is why praying for others must be a wide cultural practice and not an exception to normal.

The use of PRAYER is to get our heart and mind to dwell on the hard good stuff we normally don't want to . It is actually just our realization that we ought to obey all of Jesus' sayings ( Greek text ) if we really want to be able to enter into God's Kingdom on Earth ( not to be substituted by those who believe they are saved and are guaranteed Heaven because they mistakenly thought that Jesus' HUG for them , and maybe even the fact that they allowed Jesus to do a miracle through them was God's Baptism of His Holy Spirit ) . And only then after we seek first the Kingdom of God ( on Earth ) do we get the Desires of our Heart fulfilled .

    no there isn't.

Prayer makes you feel better, but does nothing for those in need.

To me, praying for someone is like saying "hey god, look at me! look at what a good follower I am! Love me!!!"

    God hates suck ups.
