What books should I read?

I want to learn...everything, mostly science and history.

Can you please recommend books that I should read on these subjects, or possibly audio books that I can put on my ipod?

Im currently reading a short history of nearly everything by Bill Bryson, which is a really good starting point.

Drat, i was going to recommend the Bryson book. For history I recommend Howard Zinn A People's History of the United States.

Read Vital Dust by Christian de Duve. It will explain the history of life on Earth, how DNA formed etc. and will give you an idea of whether there might be life on other planets. It's a bit dense, but completely fascinating. If you read it you will have a deeper understanding of biology and chemistry.
