Pregnant. Going to doctors tomorrow for first time. What to expect??? Advice please ? :) xx?

Hia,

I think im pregnant, took 4 pregnancy tests all positive, period hasnt come ,sore boobs on and off and feeling sick on and off.

Booked an appointment tomorrow at the doctors to have another test done hopefully just to confirm pregnancy, but what else will doctor do?

Will the dr do any other tests or just ask a few questions etc?

What happened on your first times at the doctors?

Im from the UK , also is folic acid free on prescription? i went on the nhs official website and some others, and it said yes you can on prescription if u ask. "Where can I get folic acid supplements?

You can get folic acid supplements from pharmacies, supermarkets and health food shops. You can also get folic acid on prescription from your GP" - thats from the website.

Any advice about the doctors then?

Thankyou :) x

    I'm in the UK too.

No one is going to do an internal or ask you to strip off or even examine you and they certainly won't feel your boobs. The odds are that your GP won't even confirm the pregnancy - some will ask for a urine sample which they'll send away (you get the results in 2-3 days) but if you've had a positive home test the vast majority of GPs don't re-confirm it.

He'll give you a prescription for Folic aid if you ask for it but you don't get free prescriptions (unless you're in benefits) until your next appointment so it would cost you £7.20 to fill it. Asda and Tesco do Folic acid for around £1 a tub, so do all of the pound shops and Home Bargains - much cheaper.

To be honest not much is going to happen at this appointment. All the doctor will do is tell you to take Folic acid, give you a print-off of foods to avoid, and will arrange for you to see the community midwife at ten weeks. The midwife will handle all of your ante-natal care and it's at the ten week appointment where they do a history, take bloods, urine, and blood pressure (and they never do an internal until you're in labour unless you have problems such as bleeding - this is my third and I've never had to strip off at any appointments), she'll also book your first scan for when you're 12 weeks and give you a rough due date (this usually changes once you have the 12 week scan though).

    Congrats!

When I went in for my first prenatal and testing appointment, I had a pap and some cultures done, as well as a urine test and quantitative blood tests. They also asked TONS of questions about my general well being, conception dates, last menstrual period dates, etc. Good luck! =)

they will take a urine test, blood test, look inside your vagina, feel around in there and make sure theres nothing off. also might check your breasts for lumps. I had all this happen on my first pregnancy visit. Felt like a cattle being poked and prodded!

well they test your blood then they do a urine sample

testing your blood determines if you are or not
