My cat has gone off her nut.?

She is 4 years old, we have had her 1 1/2 years, we got her from the SPCA , she is fixed and up until recently she has been a content and happy indoor cat.

About a month ago she started trying to get out and her desire to get out has increased. We live in an apartment with many cats outside.

When she does get out, she jumps the patio and goes and sits in the corner on the otherside by our bedroom window and meows.

She is incorrigible. She scratches at the door, she knows how to open it when we are out there.

She is driving us and herself crazy.

At times she will rest and sit on our laps and just chill, but most of the time she wants out.

Has anyone else experienced this or perhaps know what it may be?

PS, we have tried the squirt bottle...doesn't work.

Thanks.

I'm experiencing that right now with my one year old female cat that I've had since she was 7 weeks.

Anytime we open the front door lately she bolts out and its hard to get her back in the house. She also hops right out the window when its opened. Like you there are several feral cats outside and I'm at my wits end with my cat. I have two boys too and they hate it outdoors.

I had a theory that maybe she wasn't fixed all the way and might be going through heat. I know you got your cat fixed at the SPCA, but what if they left her tubes and only took the ovaries out...that could cause the cat to go into a faux heat making them difficult to deal with.

Is there anyway you can get her to the vet and have her checked out...I'm trying to get mines to a vet. Good luck with all this.

Just like people, they get bored and develop different interests as they get older. I'd say to try some new toys and laser pointers and try to keep her distracted and well-exercised. She might just be plain curious about the outdoors though. In that case, you can get a harness and bring her outside with that-it gives you control and boundaries for her. Many cats hate it but some like it and want to come back in after 15 minutes or so. Some will even bring you the harness to say - hey! Let's go out and play!

    Good luck.
