Symbicort Inhalation Aerosol Help?

So my mom has terrible allergies, and her doctor told her to use Symbicort Inhalation Aerosol. We were just wondering whether or not she has to use Symbicort for the rest of her life now (which I really doubt, but want to confirm). Can someone please answer this?

Thank you!

I'm thinking short term. I have asthma and I have been having more trouble with my asthma due to allergies. Mine gets better after the allergies ease up.

directly search Symbicort and READ the ADVERSE reactions to Formorterol. I used it for 5 months and began having severe side effects, tremor, forgetfulness, incoordnation, loss of balance, emotional sx, crying, talkativeness, I'm on Clonopin now and want to be off of it, but no explanation if the Symbicort caused permanent changes or will ease off. One doc/nephrologist told me it can take awhile, another, Rheum/Allergy/ said, should be out of system. So, they don't know. Neither do I, but I would never take this drug again. It has a black box warning on the FDA.gov site and I notified the FDA as well as Astra Zeneca of the effects. Symbicort is Rx'd when other drugs have failed and is usually Rx'd for COPD patients/emphysema. I have Cystic Fibrosis, but this drug was noticable to me a year ago, I used it a few time and was pacing, fidgety. I stopped, but didn't connect the sx at the time until about last year when I used it for 5 months and I'm still paying for it. Now, there may be other reasons, but the Symbicort was one of the worst meds I have ever used. I do have asthma. No real allergies, but there are meds for allergies . She should be tested, atleast once, esp if in an occupation that could contribute. Otherwise, if environmental, not much help.Saline rinses 2x daily in the nose, are effective. maybe some zyrtec or Benadryl at night? Then , next would be nasal sprays, but not Symbicort as a first choice. The doctor has an interest in the drug company I would say. To verify, go to Propublia.org and search kickbacks to MD's from Pharmaceutical Companies... No drugs should be used for life. That's the RX industry's DREAM. You get to pay them to have lavish parties, immoral lifestyles at the expense of your health. Don't buy it.. Read: Selling Sickness and other books.

Symbicort is made up of two drugs. One is a steroid, which fights inflammation in the airways, and the other is a long-lasting "bronchodilator", which means that it helps the muscles around the airway relax. It is a maintenance drug. This means that your mom will have to take it regularly (usually in the morning and the evening) for it to work. It IS NOT A RESCUE INHALER, so if your mom gets into trouble breathing, she needs to use her albuterol inhaler. Symbicort is usually prescribed for people with asthma or COPD. Asthma can be a life-long condition, so she may have to continue to use Symbicort. COPD is also a life long condition and is caused by smoking. This condition may also require that she use Symbicort for an extended period of time.

google "symbicort adverse reactions" or some such thing--find out all you can about it before you take it. i was prescribed symbicort for COPD. one puff had me totally messed up--shaking, rapid heart beat, could not sleep for THREE DAYS (and nights). but that's me. it might be fine for your mom.

oh--it turned out, 3 xrays and 3 CT scans later that i did NOT have COPD--i had severe sinusitis.

i think sinusitis and allergies often occur together--they do in me when allergy season in on. in winter, the allergies take a break.

    good luck!

Your mom shouldn't be using Symbicort just for her allergies. If she has also has asthma, then Symbicort is appropriate.
