wedding shower gift: value wise question?
I don't know about either the groom or the bride, but I am an ok friend of groom's parents. The parents and I are not close friends at all, but just chat-whenever-we-see-each-other kind of relationship (a few times or more per year). What price range of a wedding shower gift should I give to their son? Please advise. Thanks

I wouldn't give one at all. Why give a gift to someone you don't even know? I'm sure the parents wouldn't care either. If you really feel you should because of how close you are with the parents, something small and generic, like a photo frame (under $20), would be appropriate from someone the bride doesn't know. If they have invited you to the wedding, they are gift-fishing. In that case, I would just send a nice card with well wishes, and probably decline the invite. How tacky to invite guests to your wedding that you don't even know!

I always stay in the $50 range for wedding and baby shower gifts. Keep in mind that you have to pony up 3 figures if you're invited to the wedding, so don't go crazy on the shower gift.

For someone not that close, I would try to find an item off their registry in the $20 - $50 range.
