My legs itch so bad that I'm scratching skin off...?

I've been having this issue for years. Its worst at night and generally below the knee. Its such a bad itch that I can't get it to go away. I literally have to dig my nails into my skin before it goes away and then its only replaced with pain. And worse, if I don't scratch them then I have uncontrollable twitching of my legs from the thigh down. Its ridiculous and nagging and I want it tto stop. Doctor says its just dry skin but there's no way, I've tried exfoliating and applying creme, I've tried an steriod for eczema. Nothing is helpinggg help me its driving me crazy

Exfoliating dry skin is a bad idea.

I have extremely dry skin, too, and I only just recently found a solution that works.

There's a lotion called AmLactin. Get some. It's miraculously helpful.

Also, when you shower, try to avoid using soap on your legs. Soap just serves to dry your skin out even more.

I'm not a doctor, so I can't guarantee that it will help, but it definitely helped me.

I use triamcinalone cream for small rashes of eczema on my legs as well as the AmLactin lotion on my legs and arms, and it's only been 3 or 4 days, and I already feel much better.

Well my friend, I don't know if you take any drugs at all but here is what you can do. To help you get that much needed sleep, go to the chemist and ask for an antihistamine tablet called PERIACTIN or CLARATYNE. Both work but the PERIACTIN you have to take half since it makes you sleepy. And if one of these works, then make an appointment with the doctor to refer you to a Allergy Specialist and then take it from there. The two pills mentioned are both anti histamine tablets that help with the itching problem. Do not take hot hot showers, they are worse. Take short showers and try a detox diet if the problem is related to food allergy. Good luck and I hope you get that much needed sleep.

ok first of all ... STOP scratching urself... ur just making it worse honey .. try to control the urge , cut ur nails so even if u do wanna scratch ur skin doesnt get into a worser condition... second of all the best thing ever are natural remedies . Rub warm olive oil into your skin before going to sleep every night , not only will it become smooth and shiny but ur dead skin cells will be removed and new skin cells will appear in about a week and it will soothe ur legs.. it will also help in removing that it itch u hav n precent from having any scratch marks or scarring in the morning simply wash it off with lukewarm water and apply a soothing lotion to it ( tea tree oil cream or almond oil is the best) . u WILL c a difference in about a week . best of luk!!! =]
