College or University? York or Sheridan Institute?
Hi. I got accepted into York University (for Information Technology) and Sheridan Institute (for computer security). Sheridan offers a Bachelors Degree in Information Security and York offers a Bachelor of Administrative Studies. My question is should I go to Sheridan or York? I personally want to go to Sheridan because it is easier to commute. Are there any drawbacks of going to college as opposed to university in my area of study? Do employers prefer people from university over college? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Nah, it shouldn't really make a difference since they're both good schools for IT and they're both Bachelor degrees.
I actually attend York University for Information Technology (ironic, huh?) and you should note that their course is different than Sheridan's. In York's BAS ITEC, you'll be taking Business courses (in Economics, Financial Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, etc) along with Information Technology courses. In a way, it is like MIS (Management Information Systems), as it has a more business-oriented focus. At York, you'll choose one of three streams: Systems Analysis, IT Auditing & Assurance, or E-Commerce. None of these streams actually have anything to do with IT Security. If you're interested in Security, YorkU also offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Security (it's in the Department of Engineering/Math/Science). You are only required to take one math course (Math 1190) and two programming courses. At Sheridan, you'll be focusing more on programming (you'll probably have more math as well), since it's an IT security degree.
Honestly, it does not make a difference in this field. IT is a major valued whether it comes from university, college or even posessing regular certs. Base your decision on the program you like more, since the programs are actually very different.
Hope that helps!
