..well, if the rapture did start, we'd feel an earthquake, see zombies, oh, and God descending from a white puffy clouds to get all the Christians.

While I can't remember the book and verse number, the Bible says "We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Another verse says "There is no one good but God."
Salvation, if you believe the Bible, is not based on worthiness, for no one is worthy. It is given by grace to whomever believes in Christ. Believing is more than just believing He exists, it also involved following him and structuring yourself after his example even when you do not always succeed.
As for the rapture, the Bible also says "No man knows the day or hour in which the Lord comes."
In other words, the rapture is not happening today, if ever. You die when you die, he takes you then.

Your belief about salvation is a misconception and probably comes from hearsaying.
According to the Bible, we are saved by Grace, as a gift and not based on works or worthiness, by Jesus, and then sanctified by Mercy through the Holy Spirit in us.
When we accept Jesus, it's like a handshake of agreement to make friends, and then through the Holy Spirit we will get to know Him deeper and walk with Him: we agape-love Him, and He agape-love Him.
Which persons would you take in to live with you and your family in your home forever at your cost forever, agape-loving friends or people who don't care about you and your family and just want your home without regard to you and your family? Pure logic? Jesus uses exactly the same logic, and in addition He will transform you to His holiness so that by the time Christians arrive in His home, they are all holy. Perfect logic & plan, right?
When rapture happens, Christians will meet Jesus in the clouds.
Now that I have answered all your questions, if you want to stay in God's home, you'd better become His friend by following the links below:

when God tells Jesus it is time, go and receive your bride. Jesus will do just that and the righteous in Christ will disappear and all hell will break lose on earth but God will tell Jesus not any man on earth. If millions just vanished, you will know you were not worthy to escape the judgments of God which will soon follow. Go to youtube and search, a theif in the night. Very informative movie.
