If you lack the knowledge & skills to make quality jewellery

(as the first answerer assumed) then you may be wise to have just a 'lifestyle' business (ie. a paid hobby).

If so you might be capable of using a free website template enough to present your items. Alternatively find a web whiz or pay a freelance web designer only about £400.

However, if you are already an expert jeweller then get the same designer, or a web design company, to get you hosted on the Internet.

Whatever, beforehand you must research your market. Online there is information on anything you want. Find out what is selling, who is buying and why. You will also need to set your prices but with 'mark-up' to make you a living. Remember your work is hands-on! Will you be able to make enough items, of perfect quality, to meet demand. Also ensure your material suppliers are reliable and liquid.

See the various government resources and advisors first.

A word of warning: beware of family, friends & fools saying you're able. Good luck...

Source(s): PS: Cinderella was a poor girl who lost her slipper. I suggest you play on this theme: poor(er) people's jewellery, say for use for a night out. This may be my creative mind losing its common sense, but could there be a niche market for footwear jewellery? Eg. ankle chains, brooches pinned onto boot/shoe, or elaborate toe rings for sandal wearers. Also, I see you are interested in Chaucer and Graffiti (both types rebels). Could you produce jewellery designs based on these themes? Just a (late night!) idea. Suggested business names :- - Chaucer's Jewels (as in "Tales") - Cinderella's Jewellery - Cinderella's Slipper - Glitter Slipper(s) - Graffiti Glitter - Jewellery by Cinderella. Do though check for name conflicts. Again good luck...

Eeeeeek. Good sketches are a very thin beginning. I have seen many talented folks over the years, but taking a sketch to a finished piece takes lots of work. If you want to learn as an artist/hobbiest, your best bet is to check out some local classes offered at local colleges. I know it might sound like im exaggerating, but the way you are approaching this is sort of like "i want to be a doctor, i have great ideas about healing sick people".

Actually making custom jewelry is a very advanced skill, one that more then half of the bench jewelers out there cant do due to not having the skills. Sketches are a concept, then next step would be a scale drawing and these days its usually done with the help of a CAD program like DigitalGoldsmith, ArtCAM, Monarch3D, etc. Your drawings might not even be possible to construct.

if you get serious, a very good school is Revere Academy in San Fransisco. Trying to set up a business without a good knowledge base and set of skills is a reciepe for frustration and disaster.

My suggestion is to first start out by making your own jewelry from your sketches. Check freecycle and craigslist for bead swaps or find old jewelry that you can take apart and use the beads (to save on your investment). Then take some samples to an independent thrift shop (something other than Goodwill and Salvation Army). Ask them to put them out for sale (with the agreement that you get a portion of the sales). If they sell quickly, they will call you to get more of the jewelry and a sales relationship is born! All you have to do is provide the jewelry and collect money from them!

    Good luck!

I used to have a area of interest enterprise promoting rings to skydivers and that i've got been given all my supplies with the aid of a company called "jewelry & issues" out of Spokane, WA. they have actually each little thing you ought to desire to start a jewellery making enterprise inclusive of guidelines and designs for making categories of rings. they seem to be a wholesale company and furnish savings to agencies. you additionally could make any purchases in shop or on line.

Take it slow. Don't spend any money on your business that you haven't earned yet. For a website, start by posting pictures on Facebook, and if someone wants to buy something, have them send you money through Paypal.
