what do you do when you both you and your spouse's employer offers health benefits?
If you and your spouse work and both the companies offer health benefits. Is it better for us to have 2 different health insurance by 2 different employers? Is it better to just combine the health insurance from 1 employer?

First, I would chose one insurance for everyone to be on. This way if there are family deductibles, out of pocket maximums, etc that have to be met then they would be met sooner then have to individually meet one. Secondly, I would carefully review the plans that are offered. Who has lower premiums, what are the deductibles, co-pays, co-insurances..basically find the coverage that works best for your family. If the two plans are comparable then I would get insurance through whoever has been or plans to stay with the same employer long term. If that's not an option than go with the most reputable of the two - Blue Cross Blue Shield over Assurant. There will be far more in network providers for BCBS than for these smaller companies even though they offer much lower premiums. Also consider if vision and dental is offered through these plans. Many patients I see at the office I work at will have a major insurance through one spouse and then vision and dental through the other. In this case it is not necessary to have it through the same spouse.

depends if you have children, look and see how much it will cost your insurance company to cover the family and check and see how much it would cost your spouse. 1+1=2
