This is my brain. This is my brain on a new drug. Want to go for a ride? c/c/need lessons for future use!?
Interior Lightning
I watch the interior lightning.
Electricity captured, radiating
from flat screens.
The screens grow larger with each
passing year, glow larger,
filling dwellings with canned crap,
causing a deluded sensation of safety.
While the World slides more swiftly
toward ruin, somnambulist bodies lie
on couches, overstuffed
recliners made of the skins
of dead animals.
The screens explain how more
possessions are needed - Now.
An urgency causing an itching want
in fingers exudes through an
audio atmosphere.
The desire cannot be contained
or denied.
No more "make do, use it up,
wear it out".
New is needed.
New.
Knew.
The knowledge
of impending destruction is
shoved into an
unused tube of the brain.
With a push of a button,
the horrid Truth, perilous,
Peril -
is ignored.
Oh, It is O.K. Cali, c/c - means criticism or comment. Also advice I could use to improve writing in future. thank you.
I also should add, one thing that instantly calms me is watching TV. Sometimes I sit in my Dad's recliner and revel at the remote control.
I revel, rapture, rejoice, that I can change what my eyes see, merely pushing that button.

Don't throw rocks at the doggone TV; it is blameless for our dependencies through our own lack of self-control! I, too, have less than I'd like, but am learning...and I, too, have times when it is all I need...just runnin' in the background...singin'...dispensin' ironic, while wildly entertainin', justice...or landscapin' on the main with a new souffle waftin' cool aromas in the inset screen.
As for calming...company is what it is for me...watched over my laptop...rarely with any concentrated attention...the "Electronic Fireplace"!
I adore your mind, y'know. Nuttin' new, but freshly dispensed nonetheless! An entertainin' and encouragin' reminder at large! BRAVO, schweetheaht!

Good Morning HD.
I can't address what manner of synthetic it may be, but I will perhaps have to be on something, depending on situational influences or results this summer, but I found the TV reference interesting, as it can be a state of mind, induced. I can say this was a clear write, and I too, have wondered and kept you in thoughts.

I don't think my food would digest were I not watching TV while I ate.
I like your poem a lot. You express thoughts in a unique and interesting way.
My suggestion is condense the last verses together as in the first half of your poem
As far as content, I forgot about rhyme scheme. Good rhythm accomplishes this.

Spacing out when one is having a bad day/period of time is often therapeutic. My wife asks me often what I am thinking about when I stare out a window. Often, it's nothing which I've found in its own way is refreshing. Sure beats a hangover!
Now get your rear off the damn cowhides and go do something, even if its throwing rocks at the TV!

your poem tells a sad story of us, as our technology has advanced
most of us have lost the ability to think for ourselves. Most people
have noise around them 24/7..it almost as if they are afraid to think
or to finally realize the world their TVs project is not the world
they live in.Personally I make sure each day I spend a couple
of hours outside, away from comfort....good write about a good
subject.....

Mornin sweet sister. I'm so happy to see you back, I enjoyed the poem in how rellative it is to so many of us. Certainly I enjoy that you wrote it, sharing a sense of what's been going on, and you know we love you.
