Is this what Christianity really is, or do you think this reaction is not typical?
Short version: high school student in Louisiana requests that Christian prayer be left out of public school's graduation ceremony, and is subsequently harrassed, threatened with bodily harm and death, kicked out of his parents' house and disowned.

This community is not showing a Christian attitude. Christians are taught to show love to everyone and pray for those who oppose us. The "Christian" response should have been to do the substitute moment of silence allowing each person there to pray quietly to his/her god/God or just sit quietly if they choose to and that be it. If anyone was concerned for this young man's soul they should pray and be a witness to him in respect and love not the hatred shown in this article.

Completely disgraceful, but not at all surprising. Dawkins had it right when he compared fundamentalists to animals backed into the corner; they've got no real power and nothing to respond with other than aggression.
"Why can't I find anything on this Damon Fowler except on the atheist blogs?"
Because, somehow, you can't operate a search engine. They're remarkably simple, so I don't see how you've managed to fail. I just searched it and of all the mentions only one was on an atheist blog; perhaps you've accidentally toggled the "atheist blog only" option?

In my eyes, this is not what Christianity is about. As a Christian I'm actually horrified that this has happened to this guy; he's entitled to his beliefs, and people should respect them. He didn't ask for much, and the way everyone seems to be reacting gives the impression that he's sold his soul to the devil. They're completely blowing it out of proportion. What happened to love thy neighbour?

Why can't I find anything on this Damon Fowler except on the atheist blogs? Makes me think the story is a fabrication much like the one of Obama wearing the robes of an Islamic cleric.
Yeah...big surprise. Two thumbs down. How about someone directing me to a real news source instead of depending on biased atheist blogs.

well, that's extremely sad for that poor kid. while i do not like what he has to say in regard to God, i can respect his right to say it. that's what our country is supposed to be about. atheists all over the country protest prayer at certain events nearly every day of the year. i don't like it, but do they all get harassed and death threats over it? what are we? islamic terrorists?! how bizarre. i've not heard this before (other than the terrible things Westboro has done) so i hope this is not typical, but a fairly isolated event. perhaps it's because it was in the deep south, still, no excuse.
these days my heart is humbled more than ever and i cry for people who do not believe. i'm a sinner, and they are too, yet i'll be in heaven and they won't be :(. it's so extremely heartbreaking. i really feel bad for this kid, because of all he's had to go through, but also because of all he will go through if he continues to run from the Lord. see him through Jesus' eyes--a hurting, lost, helpless person in need of God. very sad story indeed. i pray for him and his family that the Lord will touch their lives and bring healing and that this young man will come to know and love Jesus.

This is not what Christianity should be. Unfortunately, this is all too often how "Christianity" presents itself.

That's disgusting. This should not be happening in 2011.

I have heard many stories like this. But the religious ignore it and try a veil a drink tea and eating cake view of religion.
