If Christians try to understand what God wants, but then claim one can't know the mind of God, aren't they?
taking on an impossible task? Why?

You're merging the two. Understanding what God wants is not an impossibility since it is recorded in His Word. Knowing the mind of God can only be done in part since we're finite and He is Infinite, but it can be done in part because He has revealed Himself to us through His Word and invited us to understand Him as He is rather than accept the twisted views of those who have misunderstood it with finite mind and spew it without reference like projectile vomit.

i imagine you're making an excellent remark! yet!!! isn't it logical that Christ may set up ONE Church in the international by the apostles, and heritage PROVES that it is the Catholic Church? That being the case, the Magisterium of Holy mom Church has the only authority (guided by technique of the Holy Spirit) to interpret Holy Scripture. below is paragraph one hundred of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. regardless of this in recommendations, the Church won't be able to and could not declare who will/received't make it to heaven, for very last judgment is for God on my own. The Church can, notwithstanding, declare the elementary steps mandatory for salvation. one hundred the interest of reading the note of God authentically has been entrusted completely to the Magisterium of the Church, it is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him.

We as Christians have the Holy Spirit and that is a way of communicating. If God wants us to know something He will let us know by the Spirit, but we can't just request stuff on command, I would feel that is disrespectful to Him.

It's actually a purposeful effort to align our lives and hearts with HIS word,His will, His commandments and as we do so - we know His will for us. We will never really understand God's mind, or even His power .... that's why trying to emulate the Savior in our lives is about as close as we can attempt to get.....

many Christians claim they can never understand the mind of god or why he does what he does but yet believe they have all the answers of existence and the afterlife. I think that either makes them delusional or liars.

When God allows his Holy Spirit to be revealed through his Word, he does so on an individual level.
an individual might know what God wants for them individually, however, they cannot speak for another.
Simply because God may reveal himself to me, doesn't mean I know the Mind of God.

They claim to understand a God beyond human comprehension.
They claim to know the unknowable.
They claim God is beyond human limitations and yet we perceive him perfectly. Down to his very characteristics. His likes and dislikes. His thoughts and desires.
Yeah. Talk about contradictory.
