If Christians try to understand what God wants, but then claim one can't know the mind of God, aren't they?
taking on an impossible task? Why?

1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists: Do you agree that this is the central irony of Christianity?
Christians claim all of human suffering comes from having eaten of the tree of knowledge, but rail against scientific inquiry because they prefer the blissful ignorance of faith (yes, I know that's a gross generalization, but I'm trying to make a point, here.) Is this ironic? If so, is it the central irony of Christianity? If not, what is?
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians, does it embarrass you that your own children are afraid to tell you they're atheists?
I feel sorry for the kids on here who constantly ask how to tell their religious parents that they don't believe in God, and sad that the best advice for them is to lay low and avoid the probable haranguing and backlash from their parents.

I mean legally actionable ways in the US. What say we get up a class-action suit or two?

23 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWould my heart ruin a Christian?
I recently agreed to be an organ donor when I renewed my driver's license. If I were to die and a Christian were to get my atheist heart, would it ruin him?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAre "Yah" and "Way" common sounds in Hebrew?
I was wondering about the correct pronunciation of YHWH this morning, and it occurred to me that the correct pronunciation of the name might not use any common phonemes in the Hebrew language because they were so careful not to use His name. Let's say, for instance, that the word for cup was "Yah" (I don't know Hebrew, this is just a hypothetical), then wouldn't rabbis say it was forbidden to use the word lest you inadvertently use the Lord's name in vain? Just a thought, but we guess what the correct pronunciation of YHWH would have been, and that makes me wonder.

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs this the type of question you would like to see more of on R&S?
I am fascinated by the history of all religions, but most specifically the Abrahamic ones. I asked this question because I find this really interesting, but only one other person seems to have agreed:

6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you believe in Creationism?
If you do, tell me why. I would like to hear some theories. I do not believe in Creationism. If you don't believe in Creationism, tell me why as well.
Thanks!
OKAY LISTEN! DO NOT----I REPEAT--DO NOT TELL ME "OH BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT IT" UNLESS YOU GIVE ME SPECIFIC EVIDENCE THAT WILL THEREFORE PROVE THE FACT OF CREATIONISM, YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG.
Just a thought. =)
31 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf a righteous man suffers brain damage and becomes a wicked man, would he still get into heaven?
We know brain damage can change personalities, so would God forgive the man's evil ways that came after his injury, or would he forget about the righteous man he once was? For that matter, how did his personality change in the first place?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHave the Jehova's Witnesses ever considered changing their names?
Modern research indicates that Jehovah is actually a misinterpretation of YHWH (spelled JHVH in Latin), and God's name was actually pronounced more like "Yah-way" then "Je-ho-vah". Have the JWs ever considered changing their name to be more in line with these findings? It's a serious question - no disrespect intended.
