aircooled VW main jet missing?

Ok, the main jet is located behind a brass plug on the little gas holding tank behind the carb... correct? Well, I took out the plug and then went after the jet and my screwdriver went right into the tank!! There was no jet at that location, have you ever heard of it being somewhere else? This is on a 74 Thing. I have no recollection of taking out the jet and the Thing ran the last time I tried it..... fairies?

You need to pull the float bowl to get to the main jet. The brass plug is a drain plug.

    BTW a 1974 Type 181 is a great car! I drive a 73 daily

to no longer be a moist blanket here on all and sundry's enthusiasm to boost by way of drill. in the previous you bypass drilling out your greater suitable jets there possibly a difficulty doing it this way. A drill will go away a spiraling grove which will reason the difficulty passing by way of that to swirl. My information on the carbs is this could disrupt the conventional bypass. seem on the smoothness of the present jet hollow and learn it to any drilled hollow. How lots this might result usual operation may be every physique wager and can very much remember on the accuracy of the hollow and sharpness of the drill bit between different issues. additionally, are the jet holes bored or are they drilled? My wager may be in direction of a mill vise or a drill press. i'm no longer asserting that drilling is faulty yet I relatively have heard this from fairly some mechanics that have lots greater adventure in this, than I, reccommend against it for those motives. submit to in concepts that the dimensions is #50 is .50mm .a hundred and twenty is a million.20mm. etc. After some measureing i've got calculated so you might use here drill bits to return on the fringe of the sizes mandatory, or relatively be bang on with lots of them. So here is going. submit to in concepts that a jet marked a hundred and twenty is a million.20mm in length, a hundred thirty five is a million.35mm etc. perchance people who understand greater accurately can ultimate me if i'm way out in this, yet i think of i'm close. 50 #seventy six fifty 5 #seventy 4 approx. 60 #seventy 3 sixty 5 #seventy one approx. 70 #70 seventy 5 #sixty 9 approx. 80 #sixty 8 80 5 #sixty six approx. ninety #sixty 5 ninety 5 #sixty 3 one hundred #sixty one one 0 five #fifty 9 a hundred and ten #fifty seven a hundred and twenty 3/sixty fourth's a hundred thirty #fifty 5 one hundred forty #fifty 4 a hundred and fifty #fifty 3 one hundred sixty a million/sixteenth's one hundred sixty five #fifty two approx. one hundred seventy #fifty one one hundred eighty #50 185 #40 9 195 #40 8 200 #40 seven 205 #40 six 210 #40 5 220 #40 4 225 #40 3 230 #40 3 approx (on the fringe of 225) 245 #40-one 250 #40 I reccomend 1size larger at a time.bypass by ability of the colour of the plugs after use.probably 2 sizes at a time won't be too lots. submit to in concepts in case you bypass too great you may solder it decrease back in and redrill. --------------------------------------... --------------------------------------...
