A permanent fix for lawnmower tires?

I've owned several riding mowers over the years, and all of them have one problem common to all of them. The tires go flat after a day or two.Every time I want to use it, I first have to air up the tires. I tried that tire "slime" sold at the auto parts store but that stuff doesn't hold up very long, I still have to air up each time. Are there any better tires to be had?

tubes are a sure bet. other things you can check is if the rims are rough air will leak there. or sometimes around the valve stems. spray soapy water all over the tires to see where they are actually leaking. or take the whole thing and put in a tub of water. either way the bubbles will show you the story. If the rims are rusty or rough smooth them. You could use sandpaper, file or my fav wire wheel on a small disk grinder. if leaking around the valve stem, just replace it. if the air is seeping through the tire itself, tubes are the only option.

If you are an electrician then you will know that it is illegal to "fix" a lawnmower wire. They have to be replaced in their entirety. When doing this you will be able to check that it is still properly connected in the mower's switch box. It's possibe that the tug when it got wrapped around the blade dislodged an internal connector. Also, you will have checked the MCB protecting the circuit that feeds the socket outlet which you were using; and checked the mower's plug itself and the mower's own protective cut out. If it's none of these then you may have damaged the lawn mower's blade bearing when the wire got trapped. Have a look and see if there is a piece of wire insulation trapped behind the blade. This would prevent the motor turning and cause it to trip-out whenever you power-up. This will possibly mean a strip-down, depending on the design of the machine.

In your case since it is absolutely apparent that you are not a very good tire fixer, I would suggest that you take all four tires off and take them to a tire store or small engine repair shop and let them fix the flats. Maybe you could get some of these solid tires like they make for wheelbarrows, really rough ride but will never go flat guaranteed.

Are you adding the proper tire pressure when you air the tires up or are you just adding air until they look good? If they are not aired properly i.e. too low of tire pressure to start with then the low pressure will allow the tires to flex on the rims and slowly milk / bleed the pressure down increasing your problem also will allow moisture to start rusting the bead of the rims adding to poor sealing of the tires. The slime, if the proper amount was used should have helped too little slime used per tire is a waste of time and money. Recheck your procedures, use a tire gage to properly air the tires and use enough slime to get the job done.

What are YOU doing to the tires? ONE mower with bad tires is a fluke. TWO are very bad luck. Three or more is something YOU are doing. The best tires in the world won't help if someone keeps letting the air out.
