where is the sense in praying?

i've been hearing a lot of "praying for victims of these disasters" like the floods and tornadoes and such, but if you believe in god, isn't he responsible for those disasters? isn't that like begging a murderer or rapist to stop themselves?

Praying to God FOR these victims are words which are pleasing to the Divine Creator. We do not have to demand He reveal His plans for anyone in this world, but praying for them He desires for our sake, too.

He does not promise that life will be easy or certain. In fact, He informs that it will not be so. It will be a difficult trial and He has sent us the means to get through it with His Grace and His Sacraments.

That is the perfect prayer to achieve the goal. The goal is the Beatific Vision, not the comforts or even lack of the pains for sin on this earth. We don't know the reasons God sends good or allows disaster but we do know it is not ours to question Him.

Where to start....first, God doesn't cause disasters. Disasters are the intersection of where human life meets natural calamity. People who make their habitat in Tornado Alley, or build homes in a river valley, or on the edge of the ocean are like the people who sit in the front row of the Shamu show and ***** about getting wet. When I pray for victims, I hope my prayers effect faith that God will continue to strive with and enlighten people's capacity for logic, reason, and risk assessment.

God isn't responsible for natural disaster. Neither is He a murderer or a rapist. People are just reckless about flashing their wads of cash or ample rack in a high crime, high rape/assault neighborhood.

Do you accuse God for causing the sun to shine on you too?

    Weather is weather.

I personally choose not to set up a house in a tornado valley, on the side of a volcano, or close to the shore.

Prayer is a sort of addressing God. we are able to wish for the soul to merge with the God as a fellow man or woman. desperate activities are the activities desperate with the help of God for this reason pray for the wellness of the each and all the guy on board. thank you

If believers really cared they'd go and help, donate money, build homes etc instead of being lazy (which just so happens to be a sin) and asking the big guy to do it.

Sometimes God makes disasters happen and other times He lets nature do it. Praying never hurts.

If that's how you see it, tell them. It's easy to say that when you're hidden behind an avatar, but if your convictions are really that strong, why don't you go "enlighten" those who praying the hardest - the victims?

You are foolish and blind. He punishes us because he Loves us. We sin, and he does this as a punishment. A good parent uses discipline to turn his child to the right path. See, people have to thank God even if what seems bad happenings.

Old tradition, from the days of old greeks.

They prayed to the angry gods so they feel mercy of them and stop killing them.

Because it works. God lives to fulflll the needs of his people.

    See:

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Jam 5:16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
