All Rock and Pop users between the ages of 12 and 16 who like classic rock, read this question?
Some users seem to think it's a rarity, or something, for teenagers to listen to classic rock. Or else you (The aforementioned age 12-16 classic rock fan) think you're unique. Which, really, you're not.
When I went to school (graduated high school 2 years ago) over three quarters of the kids in my school listened to classic rock at least once in awhile. Most of my school went to the KISS And Ozzy concerts. That hasn't really changed in the past 2 years. Hell, we haven't even really cycled to a new batch of mainstream yet. Sure, there are a few Top 40 bands that weren't around last year or the year before, but most were.
I see questions upon questions of people asking "HEY, I'M 15 AND I LISTEN TO THE BEATLES, I'M COOL RIGHT? YOU OLDER FOLK RESPECT ME, RIGHT?" and, like... hey. I'm not that much older than you, but seeing you announce that you listen to classic rock with some superior air, as if doing so makes you better than the average person, makes me respect you less.
Listen to what you want, I really don't care. I listen to some pretty out-there sh*t but you don't see me asking questions comprised solely of "HEY GUISE HEY GUISE I LISTEN TO *insert various genres here*! I'M COOL RIGHT?" because nobody gives two sh*ts. And they shouldn't. Why should anyone care about my music tastes?
I just don't understand. Is it some desperate need of approval from people you don't know? Is it that you want to be treated like you're special, or to feel that your special?
If any of you have a valid reason, please, explain it to me, because I can't find one.
BQ: Do you fall into the "between age 12-16 classic rock fan" category?
BQ2: Is nobody else (Who doesn't fall into the 12-16 year-old classic rock fan category) annoyed by the frequency and almost contemptuousness of these questions?
1) Sugaree, we have disagreed in the past over things, but let me say right now that I love you just for taking the time to say that. I wasn't aware of the history behind the term "classic rock", I've just always called it that because those bands are considered "classics". I use the terms "classic pop" and "classic jazz" amongst others, as well, because they just seemed to make sense. That being said, I will try to avoid those terms from now on.
2) KP, I love you, too, but for a whole other reason. You happen to answer the more... rantish questions of mine just to take the **** out of me, and never my others, but you always make me laugh anyway.
Ed, I don't know if you're the type to come back and read responses on questions once you've answered them, but if you are, know this: I never ignore an answer, unless it's a retarded one-word answer that doesn't really answer the question at all. I don't particularly care if people agree with me, the fact that they took the time to answer the question is enough. In fact, I generally like it when I get an odd mix of agreeing and disagreeing, or fence-sitters or people who just don't care, because it varies the answer pool and allows for a large variety of different answers, and different reasonings.
Questions where everyone says the same thing are no fun. They don't allow you to think, or to get a feel for who people are, they don't allow you to converse or respond, as I am doing now. Where's the fun in that?

when i went to school (i graduated 36 years ago) nobody listened to classic rock. when the 80's rolled around some radio promo guys came up with a radio format called classic rock in order to play stairway to heaven and freebird 5 times a day. funny thing is that everybody started calling old rock classic rock because some radio promo guys told them that's what it is.
ba: no, i stopped listening to the radio around 1984 or so.
ba2: i'm more annoyed that people get annoyed by questions people ask here.

I agree with you. I'm 16 but I don't come out shouting that I love Beatles and I want people to respect me. I don't think it's rare to find someone listening to classic rock because it's awesome. I must admit I'm not as big of a fan as I was but classic rock would still be on my iPod. I love classic rock and I hate people who does that shÃt. Not in that specific category. Any age, if anyone go and shouts they love classic rock and that they should be treated as if they're awesome for that should go blow me. But I doubt people out of that area would do that. Either way could you blame them? There would be these fúckers saying that they're just posers who really don't like classic rock. I know people telling me I'm not an actual classic rock fan because I listen to Paramore and Green Day. That I won't know shÃt cuz I wasn't even born yet. In a way I understand why they do that because some geezers would say that we don't know classic rock just because we weren't even planned when those songs came out.
Yes I'm 16. And I love classic rock as much as the next guy.

I think it's because most of this generation listens to the crap on pop radio. And a lot of people say that that's all teenagers like, so the 12-16 year olds that do listen to good music feel obliged to proof them wrong. I've never done that because that type of music always seemed normal in my family until I got to high school.
BQ: Yes, I'm 15 and I listen to classic rock, but I also listen to new music....just good new music lol
BQ2: I'm not really annoyed, but I think it is kind of stupid.

Honestly, this question is very stereotypical. Sure, there are some kids who feel the need to be accepted, but not all of us do. I don't go frolicking around, telling (or asking) everybody that I like classic rock.
On another note, I actually am one of the few kids in my school that listen to classic rock. I wouldn't say that it's rare, but it isn't exactly common amongst my age group.
I can't explain the actions of the teenagers on Y!A, but a majority of teenagers in the world have a need to fit in and be accepted. I'm lucky that I don't have that necessity, but it's more or less just human nature.
Ignore my answer if you wish, but don't pick somebody as best answer for the sole purpose of them agreeing with you.

At the time of my posting this answer, The Beatles' page on Facebook has 19,035,153 fans and I'd guess close to half of those fans are under the age of 20. Need I say more?
1. No
2. A little, but I mostly find it amusing.

Do you feel better now Jay?
Or catch the semi-ironic nature of this rant, lol. After all, if you truly didn't care you would simply ignore it.
Just sayin'.
BTW..... lyk omg wat do u think of my taste in music?!?! I'm lyk so kewl n unique, amirite? =P
Bq: not for oh.... about 20 years now.
Bq2: not really. I only tend to get annoyed when little nits of any stripe invade my personal questions with non-relevant musical proclomations, be it these younguns who got yer panties in such a twist or the little inbred hermorphradites who feel so threatened by my tyrranical rule of R&P. But otherwise, not really. Though it is occasionally fun to post questions that either force em to think, or twist their tales if they take themselves too seriously.
I mean, hey, it's a crappy little opinion and answer forum on the internet.... so really, who care?
@jay.. technically not answering many qs from anyone. I decided to dump the internet and my phone is too slow to want to spend much time. I decided it was time to re-embrace my inner luddite and return to the analog world. So I will still turn up here and there but not near like I used to.

I completely agree with you. I've never thought I was rare because of my music taste. Sure, the majority of people my age listen to pop and rap, but I know other people like me, and therefore don't feel rare. I also don't care one way or another what someone thinks of my music taste, I'm just being myself. So, no, you are not out of line.
BQ: Yup.
BQ2: I'm completely annoyed by it. I don't feel the need to post questions like that, so neither should they.

I don't flatter myself like that haha
BQ: I'm 15 and listen to classic rock. I don't really flaunt it, but if people ask for music recommendations I usually recommend some classics.
- JackieLv 610 years ago
That's a very interesting and well thought out opinion.
BQ: Nope
BQ2: Welll, I'm not really annoyed, just a little concerned at the fact that there's so many kids who feel the need to be accepted, and that they need confirmation from strangers that they're 'cool'. I feel bad for them, really. :\
