Sig 556 or Bushmaster AR15?

Between the two which one is more reliable? I have shot the bushmasters. I haven't shot the sig yet. I did like the way the sig felt when I held it though. So any inputs.

Are you really high speed/hard core enough for it to matter? I mean, I have an AR. I had it built up for me to my specifications so it would have all of the things I want. It's pretty nice and I have never, ever had a fault with it.

However ... I dumped a fair bit of money into it. While I have a reasonable round count through it I'm not throwing it into the mud or trying to come up of the water like a Seal to shoot something with it. I keep it relatively cleaned and lubed - usually ever 700 - 1000 rounds and I keep it cased at home. So a little careful, but not excessively so.

It's possible a 556 is more reliable than my AR - but how would I ever know if my AR never fails? I like the 556 and I like the design, and it could be more reliable. But the build isn't better than mine, neither is the accuracy and fundamentally ... I can't tell if it's more reliable or not.

Bushmaster makes a solid AR without question. Probably at the top of the ranks for conventional AR designs. Are you really rugged enough to be able to tell if it's more or less reliable than a 556?

If you are in the US, AR-15 all the way, it is so easy to say that the Sig is more reliable, but parts commonality take precedence. The AR-15's interchangeability is unmatched. In ~2008, the ATF banned the import of barrels from other countries, dunno what's going to be next. When the market for those Sig parts dry up, AR parts would still be there.

Plus, the system's much more modular, if you ever want to change calibers, accurize it, give it a longer/shorter barrel, change out the stock, etc it'll be fast and easy

AR-15s are also not as unreliable as you think.

I keep referring people to this video because it epitomizes the fact that they shoot, and keep on shooting, even after its blown up.

    SIG 556.

The AR is a nice gun. But when it comes to reliability, the design is just not solid. If you love the AR design and don't want to switch, H&K is coming out with a semi-auto version of the HK416 soon. Forget the name of it. But it's projected cost is around $3,000. But I swear by the reliability of H&K weapons. I've owned three H&K's in my life. Still have my '98 Mark 23, I recently got a full-size USP in 9mm and I previously owned an old P7 I bought in the early 90's, which was one of the guns I sold to buy the Mark 23.
