Showing your appreciation for her says so much more than a store bought gift. I'm sure she understands the financial side of things. Since you have kids and a household to run, send her off for a manicure or something or have a friend, family member invite her out to lunch then clean the house and catch up on laundry, dishes, have the kids clean their rooms. Make her a nice dinner and just spend some alone time with her, letting her know that she is very special part of your life. Run her a hot bath with scented candles, get her some nice body lotions or soaps. Having her relaxed and in the zone may end up being very rewarding for you both at the end of the day. Treat her like you did when the two of you first met. It may seem corny but she will love you for it.

I found this question by mistake while looking for a gift for my 35 year old wife.. I know OP probably no longer needs advice.. But... a Fitbit. It might seem like such a dumb one, especially if she doesn't go to gym.. but it's not. It will encourage her to take action and walk more, run.. even if she's not fat(they never are) but it will help her make feel better... I got the idea from the site in source.. I initially dismissed it too.. but dont.

Can you get an overnight sitter for the kids and drive to a location a few hours away and do dinner and pool in a different location? If you aren't too far from the beach how about dinner at a restaurant with a nice view? Then you aren't going to the same old, same old restaurant...

Gifts...not knowing what she's into...but I really am a fan of gift cards...some small dollar value ones for everyday stuff (like coffee) and then a few higher ones for other stuff (book store? or itunes?)...then she'll get a little smile when she uses them and doesn't have to worry about doing a little shopping when the budget is tight.

hum, why have to be a gift, you can do some fun stuff to make her day different.

Like invite all her friend and family or even strangers, and make a video of everyone say some wishing to her.

small trip with her, to the high mountain or beach, where you can sit and talk all night long see the morning sun rise.

Drew all her face expression yourself, make it like a book, with your common and words you want to say to her.

I guess this is much fun, but if you have to give her a actual gift i'll suggest some craft, clay of couple, or charm bracelet.

Get her something that shows you know her. Or get her something really romantic, write her a love song or a gushy poem. Double brownie points if you can get a local band to play the song to her in a crowded bar or restaurant. :) Here's one: my fiance did this for me. He went out and bought me the movie we saw on our first date. He told me we were going somewhere special and actually took me to the theater we went to on our first date - then he gave me the wrapped up movie. As I was opening it, he asked me if I'd go on a date with him. Wow! It wasn't even about the actual gift (to be honest the movie that came out over 3 years ago only cost like $8), it was the fact that he remembered the movie we saw on our first date AND he took me to the theater we went to on our first date that blew me away. Do something to surprise her - don't just do the ordinary cliche dinner...*boring* Hope this helps :)
