Which grass would hold up best with dogs?
I know it's really a no win situation with dogs, but thought I'd at least make an effort. I have a male and a female Golden Retriever. I'm putting in a back yard, and would like to try and make it last. lol
I live in Southern California. Which would be best, St. Augustine, or Bermuda? I know St. Augustine takes more water, but which would hold up better?
Thanks.

Bermuda.....faster self repair. Realize much of the damage is not from urine, but compaction. The constant motion over the lawn compact the soil.
You are in it from both, female urine on grass, male urine on shrubs. If you can confine them to one area or teach them to use just one area for business, that will limit damage. Water is the best defense, "ideally" water the urine spot immediately after deposit.........the nitrogen in the urine will be diluted and won't burn the shrub or lawn.
If the pups have dedicated paths......you can create a more dog friendly yard by turning those paths into crusher fines walkways and the in between areas more ornamental.....shrubs and ornamental grasses. Lawns and dogs......well, you know. They will still have their runways, you have an easier to maintain yard and one that isn't so water intensive.
