What is best, a one or two page resume?
I was recently laid off from my employer after 25 years. I haven't applied for work since 1987, so I'm getting mixed answers as to what is the standard for resumes these days.
I have quite a history with the company. I've been promoted to about 4 or 5 different positions that even changed my city location a couple of times. I've read that one page resumes are best, but I'm having trouble with all the history, city changes, and bullets that it actually makes it a little over a page and a half.
Last night, I removed several bullet points and got it down to one page. My concern is that there might be some skills that certain employers might be looking for. I know I could include bullets as needed for certain employers, but seems like a pain.
Another thing I was thinking, but not sure if it's proper. Rather than listing each position, employer, and city location, can a sentence be included in the summary area or below it, stating that I've worked with the same employer for 25 years and leave that information out of each position to save space? In other words, just list the position, then the bullet points?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment8 years agoWhich lens should I purchase, a Tamron 10-24 or a Canon 15-85?
I know they are both different animals, but let me explain my quandary.
I have a Canon T1i, a standard kit 18-55, 55-250, and a 50mm 1.8.
About a year ago, I had my 18-55 roll out of the car and took a spill. Seemed ok, and I was going to have the camera shop take a look. They said it would be best to just replace it because of how cheap it is. I never did, and continued shooting with it. Now it seems as though I'm starting to have problems with the auto focus, but it still does work. I just occasionally comes back with an out of focus shot, which is really unacceptable. (I think I'm starting to answer my own question). lol
This leads me to trying out the Tamron. I was going to shoot the meteor shower this past August, and rented a Tamron 10-24 for kicks and loved it. I initially wanted a wide angle for my travels to Europe but it never came through. (I do like the creative part of having a wide angle, plus I'm almost always shooting with my 18-55 in the 18-24 area, and always wish for wider).
I know that I really should replace my 18-55 or upgrade it to the Canon 15-85 which I've read is pretty sharp, and does have more reach than the 18-55. More expensive for sure though.
I wish I could afford to purchase the Tamron 10-24 and the Canon 15-85, but can't. I could purchase the Canon 15-85 alone, or replace the 18-55, and go with the Tamron 10-24.
Another thing I've heard is that the Canon 15-85 is a little large for an entry level Canon such as my T1i.
So what would you do, replace the 18-55 with the Canon 15-85 or just replace the 18-55 outright, and purchase the Tamron 10-24?
Thanks for your input.
6 AnswersCameras8 years agoAndroid vs iPhone - Better yet, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy 4s or Motorola Droid Razr Maxx Hd?
I have an iPhone 4 that I'm really happy with, but my work has asked me to upgrade. I can choose a iPhone (5 or wait for the 5s) Samsung Galaxy 4s, or any other Android device. It was just recommended that the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD was worth looking at.
Should I wait for the new iPhone 5s or move over to an Android device?
I like the way the iPhone works, yes, even the old iPhone 4.
My dilemma is that I just recently purchased a Nexus 7 tablet (Android), and love it. I use it for photography, specifically with the DSLR Controller app. (I do have a hot spot for internet connectivity).
There is probably advantages to having the same OS on both the tablet, and phone. One I know of is that using the DLSR Controller, if I had an Android phone I could use the phone as a wireless point to trigger my camera off my Nexus 7.
A concern is iTunes. I tried using the Google Play Cloud, but found that about 100 of my songs are under that DRM protection. I know there's software, etc, but seems like a pain, but probably a must if I want to take my music.
I'm a fairly casual user when it comes to phones. I don't do a lot of talking on the phone, but I do check work email (Lotus Notes Traveler), texting. Camera is not a factor at all. Seems like the only thing (at least in my head) holding me back is the iTunes thing, which isn't a big deal.
If you had your choice, which way would you go? And, if you do go to the Android side, which device?
5 AnswersCell Phones & Plans8 years agoAuto draft picked 2 RB's 2 Wides from 2 of the same teams, Who's worth keeping?
Ok, so here's my team,
Matt Ryan QB
Doug Martin RB
Alfred Morris RB
Eric Decker WR
Reggie Wayne WR
Jason Witten TE
Mike Williams WR
NY Giants D
Josh Scobee K
BENCH
Tony Romo QB
Mark Ingram RB
Darren Sproles RB
DeAndre Hopkins WR
Greg Jennings WR
Andre Johnson WR
Sproles and Ingram are both New Orleans
Hopkins and Johnson are both Houston.
Should I keep both players from both teams or should I try and mix it up?
If anything else jumps out as a bad thing, or possible drop for waivers, let me know.
Thanks!
2 AnswersFantasy Sports8 years agoWhat is the best sounding, inexpensive, iPhone docking station out there?
What is the best sounding, inexpensive, iPhone docking station? I know you sometimes get what you pay for, but I'm between upgrades. Please see below.
I have a 30 pin iPhone 4. My work has asked if I want to upgrade to the newer iPhone 5, but I thought I'd hold of for the new iPhone 5S or 6 which has the Lightning connection.
Is there a docking station that sounds pretty good with the 30 pin connection to get me by, or is it best to get a more expensive one that has the Lightning connection and use an adapter with the iPhone 4, 30 pin to get by?
I'd like to spend $30 to $70 to get by, but willing to go into the $150+ range if you think using an adapter is a good idea.
It would be great if it had a CD player, but not a deal breaker by any means.
Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players8 years agoWhere is the nearest place to Los Angeles to get a somewhat dark night time sky for photography?
I'm gearing up for the July and August meteor showers and want a dark sky (or somewhat dark) to do some photography. The light pollution of Los Angeles is pretty bad, but I don't want to drive hours on end. Any ideas of what might be the nearest location to Los Angeles or Long Beach?
3 AnswersPhotography9 years agoHow can a keep stray cats from pooping in my flower bed?
I have stray cats in my neighborhood, along with skunks, possum and who knows what else.
My two dogs chase them away if they are seen, but the cats usually do their business at night.
One of my dogs even had to have emergency surgery as she ingested some rocks that a cat had pooped on. (I've since removed as many of the rocks as possible). Both dogs are always searching the flower beds for the stray cat poop.
I've purchased a motion sprinkler that covers most of the yard, but the flower beds closer to the house don't get covered by the motion sprinkler, nor do I want it blasting the side of the house.
Is there something I can put in the dirt, such as cayenne pepper that will discourage the cats from pooping, yet won't hurt my dogs? I've read cayenne pepper is safe for dogs, just not sure how to apply it. Does anyone have a mixture that's used, or do you just sprinkle the cayenne dry spice around?
If you have other suggestions that might work better, I'm all ears.
Thanks!
4 AnswersGarden & Landscape9 years agoWhich grass would hold up best with dogs?
I know it's really a no win situation with dogs, but thought I'd at least make an effort. I have a male and a female Golden Retriever. I'm putting in a back yard, and would like to try and make it last. lol
I live in Southern California. Which would be best, St. Augustine, or Bermuda? I know St. Augustine takes more water, but which would hold up better?
Thanks.
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape10 years agoHow do I store my raw photos when traveling?
I'm traveling to Europe in a couple of months. I'm taking my DSLR, a couple of lenses, and my laptop.
My problem is I don't have much space on my hard drive on my laptop, but I want to have it to Photoshop images when I have down time. I do shoot raw and lots of bracketed shots. I've been needing a storage backup system for some time any way.
I was looking at the Epson P7000, but too expensive for me. I was looking also at a Wolverine Pic Pac II, cheap, but not getting great reviews. I know that these are stand alone back up devices, but wasn't sure of the cheaper models.
I'm leaning towards the LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 500 GB FireWire 800/ FireWire 400/USB 2.0 7200RPM Portable External Hard Drive since I'll have my computer anyway. And no, I certainly don't plan on using a 500gb drive, but for $110, why not get the space.
It also comes with a year of online storage which would give me peace of mind as well. Although not sure how slow that would be uploading from a hotel wireless. Not even sure how large of files they would take.
Just wondering how you might suggest to handle such a storage issue?
Thanks.
2 AnswersCameras1 decade agoWhat is the best Town Car company to use to get to LAX?
I hate using a shuttle service. I'd rather pay a little more and get door to door service.
I've used several Town Car companies with little luck. My last one was pulled over by LAPD because of lack of insurance. LAPD advised me not to use them and use other transportation. I ended up renting a car to get home.
Anyone have a dependable, friendly, good driving, car company they could recommend? Thanks.
I'd be going from Pasadena to LAX.
1 AnswerLos Angeles1 decade agoCannon Powershot SX110 or the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5?
I am replacing my old 4 megapix Kodak. I'm a very casual user, but enjoy photography and hope to get a little more into it. I'd like something simple, but want high megapix and zoom. I don't even want to get into SLR's.
Obviously, the powershot fits my budget best, but I also liked the DMC Panasonic TX5. Really stretching it would be the FZ28. I'm only picking these cameras based on Consumer Reports (not that they know anything) and images I've seen taken.
Here's a comparison of the three...

2 AnswersFantasy Sports1 decade agoWould this be a good RB pick up for week 10 replacement for Addai?
I'm just thinking about this, not sure, share your thoughts... I do get points for yards and TD's.
I have Chris Johnson and Matt Forte (Flex) already set as running backs and can use another RB, but I have Addai up against a Pittsburgh defense. Thinking of pulling someone off the waiver wire.
The only thing tempting on my waiver wire is Ray Rice or Leron McClain from the Ravens.
Are these guys worth a shot over Addai and if so, which one?
1 AnswerFantasy Sports1 decade agoWhat 3 running backs for week nine?
Marion Barber at the Giants
Chris Johnson at home against Green Bay
Matt Forte at home against Detroit
Joseph Addai or Dominic Rhodes home against New England (I have both)
I think my question is, do I start Barber or whoever is starting for the Colts? What is your take?

1 AnswerFantasy Sports1 decade agoDo I replace my Sirius radio or wait?
I have a Sirius Starmate Replay 2. The audio output has finally broke due to moving it from the car, to the house, to the boombox too many times. It is out of warranty and Sirius doesn't fix them. I would need to take it to a tv repair place and it would cost me about $60 just to have that one piece soldered. I am using the FM transmitter right now, which really stinks, that's why I started using the audio output jack with a cassette adapter in the first place.
I have purchased what I thought was a new one on-line, but it didn't work. I had to pay for shipping it back and a 20% restocking fee. There is another radio, the Streamer GTR which is the sister unit the the Starmate Replay, but I they're about $100.
I'll be purchasing a new car in the next 3 or 4 months that will have a Sirius radio factory installed. I'm trying to avoid buying new docking stations and a boombox which only those two radios are compatable with. Should I wait until I buy the car, or buy a cheap one to get by?
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players1 decade agoWhich SUV should I buy or lease?
I'm looking into a mid-size SUV. I've driven the Ford Explorer, Chevy Trail Blazer and the Honda Pilot so far. I liked the Ford Explorer the best. It seemed a little more stlylish and the Microsoft Sync was really cool. The Chevy seemed a cheap and smaller. The Honda, which I own 2 right now and love, didn't do it for me at all.
I have also been thinking about gas mileage. What do you think of the Ford Escape? I haven't driven one yet, they look a little small. I'd like to have seating for 7, which the Escape doesn't have, but I don't NEED seating for 7.
I'm not sure if I to buy or lease. I know I can get a lower monthly payment by leasing. Getting a new car every 2 or 3 years is pretty nice as well. I'm not really worried about owning a car as an investment, because it's not a big one.
I'm open to suggestions of what I should test drive as well.
11 AnswersBuying & Selling1 decade agoOf these receivers, who would you start tomorrow based on match ups?
I can start only three...
1. Marvin Harrison - out with knee injury.
2. Lee Evans - been a real disappointment this year.
3. Bernard Berrian
4. Jerricho Cotchery
5. Amani Toomer
I'm thinking Berrian and Cotchery. I'm just not sure between Evans and Toomer. Evans was/is expected to go off, Toomer could have a good game against the Dolphins.
