Remember that in dreams you can have strange emotions that aren't the same as if you are awake. Although you may be happy with your ex in the dream, it could actually be entirely different. Just the fact that, from what I understand, you both cheated and he praised you for putting yourself down brings me to the conclusion that he probably isn't the best thing for you.
