Micheal Moore on health care system in USA - opinions?
Greetings from Russia.
Just seen a M.Moore documentary "Sicko", where he outlines the benefits of 'socialized' medicine. It appears that the USA is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not provide universal health care, unlike all developed European countries.
Want to hear opinions of common American citizens on this matter. What they prefer, what they expect of their government, etc. And what is their attitude to the activity of the filmmaker. Thanks!
@Socky - 'socialized' medicine works even in such a huge country as Russia. The size of the country seems to be just a made-up problem here.

Michael Moore on anything = fail. Well, except a box of donuts...he can really go to town on one of them!

The conservatives in America hate socialized medicine. They say the government will make heath care decisions. Most have health insurance, but heath insurance companies do the same. Just two days ago Walgreen's, a drug store that is nation wide started refusing customers with Express Scripts because they don't pay enough to make a profit. Only the wealthy will soon have decent health care because they will be the only ones who can afford it.

I am a minority in my opinion. I am a conservative. I am very against abortion, same-sex marriage, and I think there should be no corporate taxes or any tax on employers for hiring employees. I support vouchers for schools, and would gladly see any workers union be sued for damages against the economy.
I am 100% for socialized health care. We should all pay a tax, and let every person get the medical treatment that is needed. Americans should be required to pay for credit card debt, education debt, but should never have to lose a home due to medical debt.

Moore makes nothing but propaganda movies. They are about as unreliable for solid information as they can get.
Even Moore admits he slants the facts and plays games with information in his movies.
The problem of taking any policy implemented in an European country that has a smaller population than some of our larger cities, and trying to upscale it to a country as large and diverse as America is a logistical nightmare. Throw into the mix practically open borders, an immigration policy that allows around a million immigrants legally into the country, with a flood of illegal immigrants, all of which are eligible for numerous services, and you get a logistical nightmare of biblical proportions.
The problems with Socialized medicine are quite large and most progressives like to bury their heads in the sand and ignore them. Chronic lack of resources, requiring rationing care is one of the largest problems. Moving Health care control into Government hands is a problem of Godzilla proportions, since governmental control of anything in the US has ranged anywhere from mediocre all the way up to corrupt and self destructing with FBI charges not far behind.
The true failure of Socialized medicine has always been, instead of leveling the playing field so everyone has access to Health care, it creates a two-tiered Caste system, where those who are forced to take the Socialized Health care are faced with a system that has resource rationing, waiting lists and possible denial of service for resource conservation, meanwhile, those of wealth can, by being able to pay for their own Health Care service, receive higher qualtiy and more timely service. Instead of it being equality, it just solidly cements into government policy the very two tiers of service it was meant to eliminate.

Russia is much smaller than the Soviet Union used to be, the diversity of the population has contracted and the actuall population is in the 150 million range. As opposed to the US which is over 310 million people, not counting illegals which could add anywhere from 30 to 50 million more.
It's not a made up problem, that is why I refer to idiot progressives who,"Bury their heads in the sand and hope the problems just go away".
"According to the 2002 census, ethnic Russians make up 80% of the total population, while six other ethnicities have a population exceeding 1 million " - Wikipedia
America has a far greater mix of ethnic groups, with a vast number of competing cultures, all of which adds to the impossibility of creating a cookie cutter national policy, which is what the socialized medicine proponents are attempting.
"Russia in Soviet times (between 1917 and the early 1990s) had a totally socialist model of health care with a centralised, integrated, hierarchically organised with the government providing free health care to all citizens. Initially successful at combating infectious diseases, the effectiveness of the socialized model declined with underinvestment. Despite a doubling in the number of hospital beds and doctors per capita between 1950 and 1980, the quality of care began to decline by the early 1980s and medical care and health outcomes were below western standards." - Wikipedia
So, Russian Socilized medicine was a failure on top of that. So IT DOESN'T WORK THERE!!!

Michael Moore is known for his "creative" interpretation of the reality.. AKA he's a liar.
I'm guessing that nowhere in his "mockumentary" does he mention that Americans are significantly more likely to survive cancer than people in a European socialized health care system? I'm guessing that he doesn't mention that socialized health care systems are MORE likely to deny treatment than any private American insurance company?
Americans are more independent minded than most other people. We like to make decisions for ourselves. Imposing low quality health care on us in the name of government control.. simply isn't a popular concept here.

The only thing you need to know about that film is that it was produced by Michael Moore. Nothing else matters.

Anyone can take a handful of citizens stories out of a population of 300,000,000 in order to sensationalize a story.

But America is a much larger country than European nations...it's a lot harder, logistically, to provide such universal healthcare...

It's something of a failure on our part that we don't take care of our own citizens.
Keep in mind that there are many people who will not attempt to debate any of his points - they'll just cast insults about his weight.
