With Bursitis, it usually will not require surgery, (You don't want that anyway)
There are tiny, fluid filled sacks called bursae, they cushion pressure points for our bones. when they become inflamed, movement or pressure is painful(it's called Bursitis) That's what has happened in your case with your Ankle.
My suggestion is use an over the counter pain reliever, keep pressure off the ankle, elevate it, and wrap an elastic bandage around your ankle to support and protect it until swelling goes down.
In simple cases, it usually disappears in about 2 weeks. But ease your ankle into activity slowly.
and seek attention from your care provider, if your ankle becomes red and hot or doesn't improve, or you also have a fever or rash. Good luck!
