How early should I book a Disney Vacation?

My family is planing to go to Disney World in June 2012 how early do we have to book to find a hotel room. We want to stay in one of the Disney Hotels. the reason I'm asking this is we have someone who doesn't know if they want to know how much time we can give them to think about it before we book a room.

Update:

by the way that one person is deciding for 3 other people out of our group of 6

usually a max of one year out... if you are price conscious i would not wait longer than 8 months if you are price conscious but daring..... wait a month and see what's available on the last minute side. june is a popular month there so..... personally i wouldn't wait. they can book their room and cancel usually 30 days prior without penalty. if you are doing a package though it's often different.

Disney "rack rates" on their hotels are static - once released to the general public, they don't change (it's not like the airlines or cruise lines where prices fluctuate based on demand).

I recommend watching the official Walt Disney World website under the "special offers" (it's listed down at the very bottom of every page) for when Disney releases any discounts for your time period and to book as soon as the discount is released to ensure that you get the hotel and room view you want.

You can also add a person to your room at the last minute. If you are booking just a room (not tickets and dining with it) then you can even add them at check in. If you have a package then they must be added at least 72 hours ahead of time.

Room only reservations are also fully refundable up to 5 days in advance and packages 45 days in advance so even if you book now and that person decides not to go, you can just remove them from the reservation.

I'd start searching for the best rates and discounts one year out.

Does one person really make that much of a difference in your hotel booking? Once you are booked you can always change the reservation and it's much easier to reduce the numbers than it is to increase them.

WDW recommends booking at least six months in advance to ensure availability of the rooms in the resort of your choice. Bear in mind, however, June is a VERY busy month at WDW, so it's best to book as far in advance as possible.
