Power window won't roll up?

2004 Cadillac Deville

While driving, I rolled my driver's power window all the way down. Now it won't roll back up at all.

If I press the auto-up or auto-down button, I can hear the window's electric motor turn for a few seconds and then shut off. Also, accompanying creaking sound when window motor first turns.

Any trick to at least get this window pulled up so I can drive in the rain?

Will this be an expensive repair? Do I need to take to dealer?

Thank you for any advice. It will be truly appreciated.

I think it's your window regulator. If you hear the motor it's no the switch or the motor. The regulator runs a cable on a spool which binds and stops the window lift. You can try to raise the window while a friend pulls up in the windows with both palms on each side of the glass. IF you can raise the window, take duct tape and attach to the inside of the glass, runn over the door frame and attach to the outside.

I would run a piece of duct tape along the window track pressing it into the corner. Should you be able to do this the car will be drivable. Your dealer will replace the regulator for 5-600 dollars. You can buy a replacement from this site http://stores.ebay.com/WINDOW-MOTOR-WORLD-INC?clk_... and try to do it yourself. I've done dozens. This is a common failure among many makes and models.

Here, I found this link with a downloadable pdf file showimng the steps to fix your problem.

If you hear the motor running it's probably not the motor, it runs so long and gets hot due to the window being stuck and shuts down because it's hot, you need to take the inner door panel off and look inside the door to see whats keeping the window from going up, to get the window up you will have to find out what is blocking it or take the glass loose from the regulator and pull the glass up by hand and then block it up with a 2x4 cut to the proper length.

Any Really Good Body Shop; Sounds like the window track is "Out Of Line" and possible the linkage is Loose or Broken.
