Why does the US still have troops/bases in Germany?

Am watching the womens us soccer game and the town is filled with American GI families which got me wondering. Why on earth do we have a base there? I am pretty sure that other than the business of the military industrial complex..there is absolutely no reason for it there.

What gives?

Most definitely. The air base is called Ramstein and there is a hospital and they have been there since after WW2 and Germany makes money from U.S. military presence. We have a base in England, Okinawa, Guam, Japan, Phillippines, and Italy. The reason is the Pentagon's supreme power.

The base and hospital has been in use since 2003 with injured American forces being flown there for medical treatment from Iraq and because of the American army hospital, I am sure thousands of them survived.

The US conducts military operations, in cooperation with other militaries, across the whole world. There is a global network of US military bases. The bases in Germany are a legacy from the Cold War, but there's not really a reason to move them--they're still quite useful in Germany, just for different reasons.

of course we have a base there and as the years go by well have more and more bases 2 things one we have no matter what a little control over most countries just enough to go put a base right in front of their noses. the only disadvantage with this is that were loosing power in the main main unless calling for backup that way its an attack from different parts of the globe

I was stationed in Germany and we did a really good job of protecting the Frauleins .. No Fraulein left behind.. LOL..

At that time we wanted to be close to the Russian border and the Germans were not allowed to have a military force.

Geographical location. as the bases were already in use from the cold war with the USSR its now just a quick trip to the south to deal with that mess down there. keep your friends close and your enemy's closer so to say
