What small beauty in Nature did you notice today? Or do you notice at all?

For insects I saw a Virginia Ctenucha, several Clouded sulphurs, Common Wood Nymphs, a Common Whitetail dragonfly, and a Tiger swallowtail.

For birds I saw a Cardinal, Turkey vultures, Crows, and heard White throated sparrows.

For plants I saw Low sweet blueberry already ripe! Swamp dewberry, Wild roses, Orange Hawkweed, Daisy, Buttercup, Spreading dog bane, Sweet fern, Bear berry, False Solomons seal, Canada may flower..

All on one walk through the trails near my house.. What did you notice in Nature today? How many small beautiful things did you bother to take notice of?

Do you think the world would be a better place if more people took note of these living things around them and looked at them with awe instead of fear or revulsion or indifference?

Do you take the time to really see around you?

Update:

What can we learn if we stoop to look instead of treading blindly on the world beneath our feet?

Update 2:

Thanks everyone for sharing what you have seen and appreciated.. it's nice to hear of all the beauty hat can be seen when one looks for it! Like sunny said, even in the midst of concrete and city scapes, nature is there, and growing!

Peace, KC

Well Kelly, you surely did have a wonderful day today!

I could picture that beautiful walk through the trails near your house and all the joys of nature that greeted you.

I'm much the same ..... I notice every tiny little thing in nature ... As I walk, I often stop and cannot help examining closely, or touching, or just gazing.

And these are busy city streets for the most part. But still there is the beauty of nature to be found ...

Today there was the furry thistle growing out of a patch of stony ground as I walked to the vets. It's furry seeds were so thick they almost felt like animal fur.

There was the little spider that had precariously built her web across the pathway between the wash line and the watering can. I managed to move her complete web with her still in the middle of it, to a safer place between two shrubs where she would not be disturbed. It's not impossible, trust me! The web may end up at a slightly odd angle but the spiders put that right within 5 or 10 minutes.

There was the luminous colour of the geraniums in planters as I came out of the Food Store tonight. It was 9.45pm and they were literally glowing in the dusk. In daylight they are beautiful, but at night they actually "glow" with a magical luminescence.

I could go on and on really ... Beauty surrounds us constantly if we walk with our eyes, hearts and minds wide open.

Thanks for the great reminder ...

    with love

Likely there was a great deal that was missed....

I was very busy weeding the vegetable gardens and tending to the apple trees.

Spent most of the day getting mother nature out from underneath my fingernails.

Although, this old fool was fortunate enough to observe two adult Barred Owls teaching a pair of owlets to take flight.

Amongst the branches of the apple trees frolicked a pair of Orchard Orioles.

Upon my return from the apple orchard there seemed to be as many as two dozen Hummingbirds hovering among the many feeders.

When returning home from the grocery store there sat a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher perched upon the neighbors phone line.

Also there were several Eastern Bluebirds lounging on the power lines along the road.

A pair of Foxes were scampering through a clearing in the early morning hours.

A heard of Buffalo were silently grazing in the neighbors pasture.

    Nothing extremely unusual....

Simply another mellow day of observing, while living and learning in Kansas.

    Peace be always with you.

Well, I woke up with the barking of my neighbor's dog Oscar. While brushing my teeth I could hear the sparrows chirping on the tree outside the balcony of my home and then the heavy rains with cool breeze entered the living room as if to wish me a happy morning. As I watered the plants in my balcony, I could smell the fresh wet earth (red mud) in my nostril which is very refreshing when I am relaxed. When the passing shower stopped, I then fed the pigeon wheat, which I do every morning. I love to see them fly from all corners (about 30 to 35) making a typical sound and once they finished they flew away back to their different corners. Since I feed them at about the same time every morning, if I am late in feeding them, a few of them wait for me and make that typical sound only the pigeons can. I then plucked the pristine white Mogras with refreshing fragrance, for my temple.

I then went about my daily chores, looking forward and planning the day ahead for work to be done and got lost in my own world.

I had tens of thousand of ants in the kitchen suddenly about 10 days ago. I encouraged them to leave and attracted them to the outside in various ways and carried about 1500 outside. This morning there were two just inside near the back door to carry outside. The ants are all slightly different so it's not easy to get them all to agree via the same approaches, so I used quite a few. But they all (within a colony) collectively work towards the same goals. They all know each other, because each one has a unique signature that is known to them all.

What can we learn if we stoop to look instead of treading blindly on the world beneath our feet?

what about the microscopic organisms that you ignore in your breathing air or why are you not amazed at the entity that is you that is capable of admiring an external world?

sorry if this sounded like an attack, it is not. people have such a big ego that they forget that they ARE nature. our accomplishments as a species are to be appreciated not discriminated. when a monkey uses a stick it is innovative, when we use a computer we are ignorant and disconnected. the truth is simple logic.

i think the most beautiful part of nature that is ignored by most almost every day is the sky. to quote my father "it's like a constant light show above us for free and no one seems to care!"

the sky is different every single day and i can't help being amazed by even simple cloud formations.

My cat's eyes are two different colors. The greenery of Wisconsin is nice to drive through.

We never ought to have left the natural life, with Nature. Shopping malls are slime!

I couldn't get out today, for I am injured. However, I saw white - tailed deer, the trees, the moss on them and the oh - so - beautiful mountains

One of my roses of Sharon bushes have two white flowers blooming.

I notice as much as I can, and quickly. I have trained myself to do that for years.

There were times when those blooms, the rain, the snow, the sunshine, and the stars were my only joy, my only companions. Thanks for reminding me. I used to write all those facts I noticed in my book (note book) of gratitudes.

I live in a concrete city, but I did see a grasshopper who happened to have entered my work building. He looked very out of place, but was cute. :-)
