What came first, the atom or the Adam?

PREMISE: I am a creationist. I have also studied science. So, by my calculations, the scriptures imply that the Earth (and all of creation) is approaching 10k years old. Science, on the other hand, implies that the earth itself is roughly 4.5 billion years old. I have seen the data. Carbon dating, pottasium-argon studies, and even the astronomical calculations regarding the expansion of the universe. Science has fairly well proven that the universe and the Earth itself appear to be very old.

QUESTION 1: Is it be plausible that what is measured today is subject to perspective? That is, could it be that the Earth and Universe could, in fact, be young but have the appearance of age? Could the man Adam have been analogous to this?

Using our current observational methods, would we not have seen Adam as mature though he was made only moments before we observed him? Would he not be young but have an appearance of maturity?

THE POINT: It seems plausible to me that something can appear old while being young. I have also observed the young that are relatively old.

QUESTION 2: Can our objective, scientific measures and the creationistic accounts be reconciled here?

Your problem is with time, not science or the Bible. You're using a yardstick that's a definitive length. There's your problem.

Thanks to Mr. Einstein, we know that time is rubber. Its rate of passage changes based upon the speed of an observer, the gravity where it is measured, and the expansion of space. The rate of time's passage compared to the expansion of space is a ratio called the Time Dilation Factor, and it's a universal constant.

Astrophysicist Gerald Schroeder investigated the Time Dilation Factor, and divided our distance from the apparent center of the universe (where the Big Bang began) by the Time Dilation Factor to get an apparent age for the origin of the universe. Although the universe appears to be 14.5 billion years old where we live (and appears even older further out), Schroeder calculated that at the origin point of the universe, it appears to be just SIX DAYS old. I think that's an amazing result.

When you understand that time is fluid (and the Bible alludes to this fact) then it's possible to see that BOTH the scientific explanation AND the Biblical creation account are plausible, AT THE SAME TIME.

Atom came first as energy/matter cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed.

    1. No, scientific observations are probably fairly accurate for 4.5 billion year old earth.

    2. Yes, the biblical record does not state how old the earth is. The Hebrew word 'yom' translated as 'day' can also mean 'time period', anywhere from thousands to millions of years for example. Consider also that the earth/sun system was not even put in place until the fourth creative 'time period' so it certainly could not have been a 24 hour day because it didn't even exist before then.

It can only be the atom!

You cannot build a wall without bricks and atoms are the building blocks of the universe which came long before Adam!

The Pope, Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept the big bang and evolution!

Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!

Nice that christians and atheists can agree and laugh together even if it is at fundie expense!

But behind the laughter is the despair at the fundamentalists striving so hard to destroy christianity by turning it from a religion to an ideology!

Surveys suggest that 29% of American christians are so extremist in their beliefs that they fall well outside of the accepted bounds of christianity!

Which extremist sect do you belong to? It would be nice to know so that GOOD christians can disassociate themselves from you and that sect!

    Q1. Yes.

Q2. Only if one believes in creationism. But those who reject creationism cannot reconcile it regardless.

Forgive others as I have forgiven you.

I’m not here to win a popularity contest, but to witness to and speak the TRUTH.

The atom because God created the Earth before Adam.

Biology is the study of dust..

Adam in hebrew = Dust / Man

#1: The flood did things to the earth that may have or Carbon dating is a hoax.

    #2: Science is not spiritual-related.
