Can you find information about Sperm Donor heredity?
I'm 20 years old, in college. Today over Summer Vacation my parents just told me, after just simply questioning why I was born so late into their marriage, that they used artificial insemination. My dad, who I thought was my real father for 20 years wasn't my biological father.
I'm still in shock. Yet now that I know that, I start realizing all the differences in us. He's short, I'm tall. I have blond hair, he has brown. And my eyes are blue green and his are light blue...though...my mom has green eyes...
I'm still reeling, and I'm kind of upset, but I'm glad they told me when I was older and more mature. Yet now comes the question, what is my heredity then?
I love my Dad, the one who took care of me as a kid. I always and forever will call him my dad.
But is there a way I could find out, at least what nationality I am?
Or if I'm at risk to some types of diseases?
I don't care about "knowing" who my biological donor father is as a person. But I want to understand what his genetic makeup is.
Are there a way to find out this information?

yes. talk to your parents about the donor. every sperm bank i looked at offered at the very least the physical characteristics of the donor (height/weight/hair and eye color), as well as their background (italian, german, japanese, english.... whatever). all of that is usually available for free - but most parents who choose to use donated sperm also request, or receive, additional information.
for my son, i was able to purchase a "long profile" which included a few essay questions, as well as the height/weight/hair and eye color of his family (parents, grandparents and any sibling he had).
depending on the bank, you may be able to contact them with the donor ID and get more information. but definitely talk to your parents about the donor - they have to have SOME information.
just please be sure to let them know that you're doing this for yourself, out of curiosity... not because your relationship with them has changed, or that you want to know your "real" dad. your father is your real dad... this donor is just your genetic make up.
