It is a manifestation of our brains?

Or our minds/psyche?

Or is it something of our inner conscious experience?

What makes one person want something more than another?

And one could relatively easily gain access and transport their embryo into it,

Would there be a need for abortion, if one could just as easily transfer the fetus into a machine and be done with it?

Is there something wrong with having a child of a womans own genetic material live without her consent? (even though she doesn't have to carry to term)

Or is there something wrong with using an artificial womb? (that could make a perfectly healthy human)

What is your view?

Where does it come from?

We can't measure what is or what is not conscious physically.

But are people really the same conscious person if they're memory is changed?

If a being has a limited memory, does that make it less sentient?

If you lost the ability to make memories, would you still be you? Or would it be another consciousness in your body, and a new one taking over every time it loses track of it's identity?

It seems that whenever you try to find truth in something, people take it as offensive that you don't take their word for it. Is there a natural human reaction to skepticism?

In a friendly debate between some friends of mine on the topic of Objective Morality, a friend brought up the word 'Ought'. Now I myself, being an Amoral Consequentialist argued there is not, nor need be any 'Ought'. I argued that there is only a chain reactions of "Is" in which we have learned from and predict the positive or negative outcomes of, and from those memories we pass along generations, we say whether it is good or bad. The objective 'Ought' is an illusion.

In the end, he only insisted that an "ought" is needed, or else people would treat rape just as bad as eating cake, and that it is the 'objective ought' that keeps us with rules. What are your opinions? I may have sounded bias on my side but do you feel he is right? Is 'Ought' needed?

My philosophy is always evolving,

I take in new ideas.

But in the terms of moral philosophy, I think I am stuck on this:

Might Makes Right.

Power controls.

And Morality is nothing more than a shared social idea, therefore able to be changed.

And if able to be changed, able to be controlled.

Other than those facts, everything else and (like other moral laws) are just powerless ideologies that crumble once confronted.

Is there any way that this is logically wrong?

Morality isn't real, and the aspects of power in our society control how we feel what is right and wrong?

Rather than when someone likes you.

For example. I had two friends of the opposite sex that didn't know each other and meet for the first time.

After they met, I kind of just had this feeling that they liked each other and would inevitably go out together. Alas, I was right.

Yet individually, it seems hard to tell (for me at least) when someone likes you.

I've been told by more than one woman that I seemed oblivious to their signs that they gave me.

What do you think? Is it easier to see love signs from a 3rd person perspective or are they both the same? (haha or is something wrong with me?)

What's the difference between a brain and a computer?

Computers work in binary and with a series of different switch connections using the flow of electrons in metals.

Do brains do something similar but instead use Neurons? If not, how?

If both a computer processor (note, not the entire system) and a brain were the same size and mass, which would have the most processing power and which would be more energy efficient?

Obviously, a brain is not wired to do pure calculations, however, I'm not saying it's a human brain, it could be a genetically designed brain or something.

It seems no one gives a care about the sciences anymore, and maybe humanity just doesn't care about exploration ever since we invented plasma tv's.

What are we?

From observation, we or at least, I am, a conscious being that contains memories and the capability of higher logical thought processes. However I take for granted everyone is in the same boat as me. (I'm not a solipcist)

Basically, I want to know what makes humans, humans?

Or more precisely, what makes humans be 'not just matter'.

Is it our consciousness?

Our memories?

Our own individual identity?

Our DNA or our bodies?

Also, when do we become ourselves?

At conception, we have our own genetic identity, but no bodily identity, no conscious or mental identity.

As a baby out of the womb, we have a body but now we still don't have any memory nor do I think babies themselves have consciousness.

As we grow up, we become conscious, but our memories fade. Are we the same person, the same consciousness as we were when we were kids? Or if we have dementia or amnesia, are we the same person, without our memories?

And why do people use them interchangeably?

'I think, therefore I am' is a self evident proof that one exists.

However, you cannot 'prove' that anyone else truly 'thinks' so therefore taken to extremes, everyone but you could just as well be walking and talking automatons.

If there really is no other way to prove someone else's consciousness, why is solipsism so taboo?

and are monopolies good for the people?

One of my friends tried to make this argument to me but I'm just not buying it.

Something about how it stifles product research and employment.

Does a capitalist like or dislike anti-trust laws? because I thought the entire reason capitalism worked is because of competition.

Is it the emotion or feeling of jealousy that drives one to be suspicious of thievery or foul play?

For instance, (set in older times)

If you happen to lose a few lambs mysteriously overnight, yet your neighbour just happens to be cooking a feast with more meat then he could usually afford so you become suspicious, is that driven by jealousy? Are you coveting your neighbors house?

If not, what emotion compels one to be suspicious?

After losing a game of cards that doesn't feel right...

Is it jealously to accuse them of cheating?

In most cases it's impossible to prove and you will be told "you're just jealous".

If you were ripped off by someone, yet had no evidence, would you consider yourself jealous?

I don't quite understand morality.

I do things due to the logic behind them, not an internal voice or a code.

I think before I act, and look at the risk, reward, probability and the consequences before acting on something. (ex: I want to gain trust with people because it is useful, therefore I do not lie, cheat or steal.)

The risk usually always outweighs the reward.

Yet, I act exactly like, if not 'better' than people who claim they follow moral codes.

Could it be that morality itself evolved and arose from culture because it was logically sound?

If not, what else would cause morality in peoples cultures?

All my life people have noted that I'm "left-brained", "Cerebral", "Logical" or "Analytical". I am very self controlled. And my emotions and temper never get the better of me.

I always plan things out, think before I act and don't do rash or stupid things. But I'm not a robot, I can use emotion and I'm NOT socially awkward. (Like other left brained people.) I can comfort those who grieve. I can give good advice. I understand and read situations and people well.

But this past week, I lost two people important to me. My Grandpa and my Best friend. Everyone has be sending me condolences, trying to comfort me, like I would obviously do for them. But...I feel like I should be hit with a wave of uncontrollable emotion. I haven't cried. I haven't sobbed or gone through the stages of denial or anger. I haven't lashed out or yelled or anything really out of the normal.

I've been keeping myself busy with work and school, and usually either reading or games in between. But I feel guilty, in a way, for not responding like other people would. I miss my Grandpa and Best Friend. Yet I know there is nothing I can do,they are gone forever. The best thing to do is move on with my life, but...I don't know how I should react....

I'm 20 years old, in college. Today over Summer Vacation my parents just told me, after just simply questioning why I was born so late into their marriage, that they used artificial insemination. My dad, who I thought was my real father for 20 years wasn't my biological father.

I'm still in shock. Yet now that I know that, I start realizing all the differences in us. He's short, I'm tall. I have blond hair, he has brown. And my eyes are blue green and his are light blue...though...my mom has green eyes...

I'm still reeling, and I'm kind of upset, but I'm glad they told me when I was older and more mature. Yet now comes the question, what is my heredity then?

I love my Dad, the one who took care of me as a kid. I always and forever will call him my dad.

But is there a way I could find out, at least what nationality I am?

Or if I'm at risk to some types of diseases?

I don't care about "knowing" who my biological donor father is as a person. But I want to understand what his genetic makeup is.

Are there a way to find out this information?
