What are good small dogs?

I want to get a puppy. My mom says that it has to be small and can't shed a lot. I want to get a french bulldog but they are really expensive and their is not a lot in my area. What can I do...any suggestions.

Update:

$800 is expensive.. I would rather pay $100-$250. My local shelter has no puppies at all. I have had bad experiences with min. schnauzer. I have looked on pet finder and found 1 puppy I like but he is 3 hours away in Indiana. I was considering a shih tzu. Any more suggestions.

Here is a website on low-shedding dogs: http://www.justdogbreeds.com/low-shedding-dog-bree...

French Bulldogs are really expensive and they shed a lot. I suggest you get a Miniature Schnauzer because they are one of the only dog breeds that aren't expensive and are very common in the United States. You can find at least one breeder in every state. They are small, playful, very intelligent, and barely even shed.

    Hope I helped :D

Look into the Min. Schnauzer breed. They are a great small dog, easy to train and love play and be with family. Have had three in the past. Like any dog they do need socializing and training. Because of their size not a dog to be left on its own outdoors. They do need to be groomed. Good luck on your hunt.

You can check pet finder, or go to a local shelter.

I don't know what expensive is to you, but a poodle or bichon (they don't shed much) bred by a reputable breeder, can cost in the thousands. (average)

I think you should go to the shelter and look for a poodle mix of some sort.

shelters have a lot of cute puppies :)!! at least give that a shot! :) chihuahuas are awesome but do tend to get barky, poodles are good too there are three diff sizes !!! they are smart and dont shed!! they learn fast too, but you need to groom them at least once a month, sometimes exp,, do research on caring for dogs before you end up in a bad situation!! because you couldnt train properly!! read first !! remember its not the dogs fault, they need to be trained :)

I think that a good breed of dog to get is an lhasa apso as they make great household pets and work well with kids. They dont shed and are very small but you have to groom and cut their hair alot as it can get very long.

Hebrew National are pretty good. So are Nathan's. You need to pay a little more to get a better hot dog. Paying 0.84 cents aint gonna cut it buddy. You need to dole out like 5 bucks atleast. Also, make them on the grill. You'll get some nice grill marks. Bon Apetite!!!

Source(s): Oh, you're looking for small dogs. Not hot dogs. Oh, well nevermind, LOL!

miniature schnauzers, they don't shed, easily trained and really love to be around you. Sort of like a little 'mini me'

There are a lot of factors do you want a dog that is playful or more mellow? Do want a dog that requires little or no grooming or do you want a dog with long flowing hair that requires daily grooming?

Boston terriers don't shed a lot, and most only come up to your knee. You should go to a shelter and check out their pups.

how about a short haired chihuahua. They are low maintenance , easy to train. but it is very important to get them socialized. because if not they will become yappers. look at my video of my chihauhua
