What did they call straight guys who really cared about their appearance before the term "Metrosexual" existed?

I know that "fop" and "dandy" are old words, but was there something more recent?

Update:

I'm not talking about "pretty boys" or "sissy boys". I'm talking about men who wore the latest fashion, always were well-groomed, etc. They could have been macho or normal, but not effeminate.

i've heard the term 'dandy' in a couple of films from the 60s, so it's been used in fairly recent times .. i guess that's what you'd call them.. .. either that, or 'a bit poofy'

girlie men? GQ? I always thought the magazine GQ stood for "Gay and Queer" no offense. Hollywood boys. Pretty boys. Prissy boys. Soft? Sissy? Queens?

Not sure bout that but my guy told me he was metro-sexual when we first started dating and I didn't know what it was a freaked out...lol. He had to explain it to me. I thought it was something freaky at first.
