Atheists! Christians! Cease fire! Why can't we all get along?
Hi, I am an Atheist who is disturbed by the actions of both participating parties. Who cares if someone is an Atheist, Buddhist, Satanist, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, etc. Why can't we just respect each others beliefs? There are bad people in Atheism and Christianity. I live in the bible belt and some of my friends are conservative Christians who are fully aware of my Atheism. They love me to death too :D. Not all Christians are bad people just like not all Atheists are bad people. If your a Christian, I respect that. We may not agree on beliefs, but if being a Christian makes you a better person, than I have no issues with you. Long as you do not proselytize, I have ZERO issues you. Let's come to an agreement and call it truce. Please, lets stop this childish fighting and get along. You have your beliefs and I have mine.
@JokerRulez You have the best answer so far. Thank you for showing maturity in your answer.
@Tay Thank you for kind reply. I am just trying to call truce to this fighting. I think both parties can resolve our issues in a more mature way. Fighting only holds both parties back.

HI, I totally agree with you. I am sick of my friends always attempting to change my beliefs about God and Christ. I am a Christian and that is what I am. If you are an atheist, then that is what you are. Everybody has the right to their own opinions and shouldn't be put upon by others because of it. Though you must realize that differences in humans in cultures are not looked upon as good things for some odd reason and that is the true root of the issue!!
I will gladly join your truce. Thanks for being so tolerant of others!!!

I have no issue with any religious person until they tell me I need to believe what they believe. I listen to my Christian friends talk about how god helped them and I'll listen without judging, sometimes makes me wish I could believe but when I tell someone I'm atheist who I don't know very well, they typically try to convert me on the spot which is probably the rudest thing someone can do to me, telling me what I believe is wrong with no real evidence (they almost always say the bible says so, so I should believe) is the fastest way to piss me off. I am very respectful of other people's beliefs whether I agree or not and wonder why (mostly Christians because of where I live) just can't have the same respect.

Me. Christian. You. Atheist. Me agree. And to be more intellectual not only that, but we've started wars throughout history about this too! I mean every religion is basically the same (besides atheism and jews) we all believe in a god, so what's the point in killing eachother over pretty much the same god? I agree with you it's completely stupid

Religious beliefs shape society. They determine what is expected of people and they influence the drafting of laws. In the absence of religion, ideally, there is rationality. Rationality looks at things as they really are, not through the filter of religious beliefs. If religion is widespread, the effects on society cannot be avoided, because religious people don't even realize what they're doing. Those who deny that what they practice and live by is religion by calling it "a relationship" are only deluding themselves.

If theists arent doing anything harmful with their beliefs, then I agree with you. I'd still debate, but only as a friendly, mutual debate.
However many theists ARE doing harmful stuff with their religion. So I speak up.
I'm not taking shots at anyone. If people don't like what I have to say, they can just ignore it. I'm not trying to stop them from believing....just offer them another view on things...which they can take or leave.

Jesus commanded His disciples to proselytize. If that is a problem for you, then you will have problems with us. That is your choice.
God bless.

RE "Let's make a deal: You promise me that nobody ever gets hurt by religion again, and I'll never discuss it again."
Wow. Look at the logical fallacy. Anything a religious person does gets lumped in the general category of "religion." Ha ha.
That is as logical as lumping any evil done by an American under the general category of "America", and then saying it's proof that America is evil and must be abolished. (Forgetting the fact that the same kind of crimes happen in every country). In the same way, Dreamland Atrophy forgets that some atheists do the same sort of things as some religious folk.

I don't attack anyone's beliefs, i respect them. it's when they make ignorant arguments against mine that i feel obligated to correct them and defend my beliefs just as they feel the need to defend theirs. I understand that good and bad people come from every side. i also have friends that are christian and friends that are catholic and friends that are atheist and agnostic. I typically don't discuss my beliefs with them unless they ask. It's in human nature to be defensive when someone questions your belief or calls you stupid or ignorant or tells you that you're going to hell because you don't think the same way they do, or you see people like that of westboro church who are insulting people with their beliefs then i believe it is your duty to stand up to them.

we can get a long a lot better when:
A. stop introducing religious ideals into law
B. stop trying to teach religion in schools
C. stop spending my tax money on religious events
D. Stop knocking on my door trying to convert me
E. open their eyes to facts of science, not beliefs.
F. stop spreading lies about people that do not believe as they do.
G. stop finding reasons to take away for not give people equal rights.
that would be a good start

I care about anyone who rejects Jesus Christ....He is the only way to heaven...there is NO religion that will do that for us.
I'm not a good person.....I'm just forgiven and saved from the punishment of hell....Thanks to God's mercy

I vote that we both - atheists and Christians - put Sephiroth X in the middle of the crossfire.
