This phrase is using the term "door" as an allusion to something, we must assume.
For me, after thirty + years searching in this life, I discovered that it is Truth that one shall receive, and it can ONLY be "experienced" by ones Apapsyche [Operational Energy of ones Soul].

Good question. I always think Matthew 7:7 refers to the questions we have inside of us and that the answers will come to us if we ask and seek them inside of ourselves. Probably the door means all the mental and spiritual blocks we have. We have to be consistent and knock at this door inside of us so that our own wisdom come out.
I love those words from Jesus.
